I'm not surprised by Grealish being omitted if true. Someone with his talent plays it too safe too often for me and others are now ahead of him in the pecking order
I’m surprised because as much as I think he deserved to be cut, I still think Southgate would’ve took him. Seen rumours on Twitter that Branthwaite is next to be cut instead of Dunk. Ludicrous if true.
Agree - Toney offers something different to Watkins - there's an unpredictability about him - plus he can score penalties
The odds on Toney not going have dropped dramatically today, can't think why? The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Agree - If he takes too many players on he might (heaven forbid) lose the ball sometimes! (Never mind the fact that he might beat 2 men on other occasions, it isn't worth the risk and we all know it!)
Apparently, James Trafford and Jarrad Branthwaite and the other two to miss out, so Toney’s included. As is Bowen, so well done to him.
The uproar when squad's are announced is always a bit daft. Irrespective of whether Branthwaite or Grealish go, they probably wouldn't play. The first XI is pretty much set and you're not gonna to change much apart from that third group stage game if we've already qualified.
I think Branthwaite is soon gonna be the most coveted Centre Back in the PL - for one so young he oozes class and maturity.
Sad for Maguire. Realistically that’s his last tournament and he’s had an excellent England career. Deserved to have one more crack at it. I think I’d have gone for Branthwaite over Dunk and Grealish over one of Eze/Bowen/Wharton but other than that it’s pretty solid.
I personally think that Southgate never rated Grealish and picked him previously because of public sway. He was never one his blued eyed boys and I also think that he’s dropped him at the first opportunity. Saying that I wouldn’t have put him in ahead of Eze or Gordon on current form so think it’s the correct decision. On that note, one part of me wants to congratulate Southgate on going for players in form but then I look at Luke Shaw. Shaw hasn’t kicked a ball since mid Feb and isn’t considered fit enough for the final friendly but still makes the squad. Double and muddled up standards, still from Gareth, IMO.
