He asked for trouble - how exactly? By having a twitter account? Was THAT the 'stupid thing' he did? In the same way that women shouldn't 'dress like sluts', should black people not 'look like n*****s'? At last we know the solution to all of this now. Ban black people from having twitter accounts. Calm down for a minute would ya (its never good when a Willy gets over excited!). You seem to have got me all wrong. This ain't nothing to do with race as far as I can see it. Its to do with Pro Sportsmen setting up a Twitter account which by its very nature can and will attract all sorts of weirdo's attention, and then whingeing when someone posts an abusive message about them! What's the next step? Ban fans from shouting distasteful things at football grounds? Because if you go down that road, I guarantee you're on a hiding to nothing. And Willy, I never said anything about Women not dressing like sluts- a Canadian Bobby did. And it was a very stupid thing to say (although bizarrely the outcome of it was women staging a "slut walk" where men could ogle them!). And I never said anything about black people either. You're misrepresenting me my man.
Does this mean that TF, who has been using Twitter as a fantastic tool for interacting with the masses, should abandon social networking for fear of bigotry and racism? Part of his appeal has been his willingness to listen to the fans but perhaps he should just shut up shop and run the club like the previous despots just to avoid abuse. Wrong is wrong no matter how people communicate it.
Fernandes isn't a footballer and therefore its an entirely different scenario. Again, you seem to have me wrong too. Bigotry and racism are not what I'm talking about per se; Just abuse in general. Players will get it from the terraces. They will get it on blogs and forums. And if they're really into getting mocked they should set up a twitter account and tell every beer-swelled begrudging opposition football fan in the Country. Now that's very smart. Death threats are another animal altogether. They've got to be taken seriously for obvious reasons.
You're so wrong on so many levels. Not least because you are wrong in thinking you're being misrepresented, because i'm quoting you directly. You quoted the Canadian policeman as support for your view. So it's fair to accept that his view supports yours. And it IS all about race, because the tweet he complained about was racist. You seem to think that by dismissing that element, you can forget the rest. And had that element not been the root cause of the problem, there would have been no issues and no complaints. All manner of celebrities and non-celebrities get abused on twitter all the time, and either give it back or ignore it. However, racist abuse is racist abuse however it's delivered, and there's no excuses, and no blame attached to Jay. He's not contributed to this in any way, and for you to say (direct quote, remember) that "Bothroyd was asking for trouble" and should have "taken personal responsibility and not do stupid things", you indicate that this was, to a fair extent, his own fault. That's no misrepresentation, it's a stated view based on your own quotes, taken in context. I repeat - you're wrong on just about every level, and I cannot agree with you or see your point of view whatsoever. I'm sure Jay would appreciate you making this point to him in person. I'd certainly be able to sell tickets to that one.
But when I quoted the Canadian Copper I said it was a bloody stupid thing to say Willy! He was an idiot! And you're saying its all about race. Is it? What if someone posted a far worse diatribe to him and slagged off every single aspect of the man, his background, family etc but didn't comment on his race? It wouldn't make it right, but it also wouldn't make it racist. And he's complained about the fact that the insult was a racist one, the thing you seem hell bent on ignoring. You've said that Jay was asking for trouble. You've said that he was doind 'stupid things'. You likened it to the 'slut-walk' trigger. You have said time and time again that we shouldn't try to stop people making racist abuse, it's our own fault for opening ourselves up to the possibility of it happening. So don't try and turn this into 'my' problem, because you think that I don't understand you. I understand you only too well. And I know that you are wrong.
You miss the point I'm afraid. YES, footballers do leave themselves open for abuse in the form of "you're **** at football." That's conjecture and is OK. If the colour of someone's skin gets used to "embellish" the insult then that's racist. No one ever says in anger - you're a likeable ****, the adjective is used as a further insult so the use of skin colour in the same way is just wrong as it is meant as a term of insult. Wrongly. Likewise, the way you receive the racist comment is irrelevant. Would it be JB's fault for having a garden if a carrier pigeon brought the message? Also, racism is based on hatred and should not have to wait for death threats to be punished. A million tweets from people asserting that he's not good at kicking footballs is OK. Anything more than zero racist ones is NOT.
You're like a dog with a bone on this one my little Willy. When did I ever say we shouldn't try to stop people making racist abuse let alone time and time again? The fact is, if you're at a game and a player is playing sh*t and the bloke next to you yells "Oi, you useless fuc*ing so and so", would you call the police? Best thing for Nelly to do is ban all the players from using twitter. That would cut out Barton's trouble an' all.
OK. First of all, less of the 'my little willy' and 'my friend'. Because I wouldn't want to be a friend of someone with your opinions. So leave that one alone. Secondly, abuse when someone is playing badly is all part of the game, just as praise when someone plays well. It's what they all play for. But this is RACIST abuse, which you are still ignoring, and that makes it wrong.
I'm still interested in you understanding why racist abuse is always wrong, and never the fault of the person receiving it. Because you seem like you just want to walk away without getting to the point of the debate. Unless stirring up things and then walking away is what gets you off....
