What possible benefit would the club see in not announcing it?

They will have seen the mounting concern on social media and would surely see that an announcement would put an end to the growing nerves?

Maybe the coach is abroad at the moment (coaching course in Seattle) so an announcement would not accompany the obligatory pictures with shirt being held up and signing the contract etc

I can't see that the club would not say a word if they had got their man. The noise is ramping up daily across all platforms and delaying an announcement wouldn't make sense.

    Just my opinion though

The longer it goes, the worst the backlash from our fans is going to be if we announce a Robinson, Challinor, Heckingbottom or, even, a Rosenior. It’s going to be huge anyway mind.

Having had this go on so long now, it is going to have to be someone that a sizeable proportion of the fans are in favour of.

I’m not usually one for pandering to fans’ whims but the atmosphere welcoming an ‘underwhelming’ appointment would make the job nigh on an impossible task for the new man.

Random honestly, I chose a place it's not easy to get back from, could have said Perth or Auckland for the same effect.

May not be a popular opinion on this board but it’s definitely the feeling amongst the majority of fans, that’s becoming obvious to see. Hopefully some positive news soon

I'm not sure that's the case, but on here he is very unpopular that's true, I was talking to a few fellas in the pub yesterday a couple of Sunderland fans, a Darlo fan and a Leeds fan, when I mentioned Maric and Pascal Jansen, they were like, who are they? With a twisted face, Rosenior and Heckingbottom are known at least.

Sadly, I have to agree with you.

They have put themselves under unnecessary pressure due to their dillydallying over hiring a new head coach.

I didn't use the word certainty but it's good enough to describe how I'm looking at it.

I'm seeing a squad with a lot of unproven young talent, that is unproven at being good enough to get us promoted, which finished the season very much in relegation form. A recruitment team that struggles to find quality players in key areas for their budget. A fanbase that gets increasingly hysterical every year.

Then looking at the coaches in contention I'm seeing people I know very little about as head coaches (I don't believe many if any on here do), some who haven't even done the job yet and those that have haven't managed in England.

I'm not suggesting we sign an experienced battleaxe but looking at Rosenior he's just finished 7th with a team not significantly better than ours (people will disagree but I don't care) and to my mind he's also an exciting young prospect who could grow with the club.

That's how I'm looking at it. Maybe I'm being too conservative and would miss out on the next Pep but I've got alarm bells ringing quietly. A lot depends on our business in the transfer window but I'm not exactly super confident about that either.

To be fair succession planning is the buzz phrase used by Speakman. I've said previously he spouts that much corporate talk he sets himself up for a fall. It also doesn't seem to be that difficult for other clubs, it was February man. People are quite rightly concerned because whilst head coaches wont be involved in negotiations, players will be interested in who they will be playing for.
