I was well impressed with Lucas' performance against Citeh yesterday. I know he's been one of our most consistent performers over the last few months, but I felt he really came of age yesterday. Playing against a central midfield that included Silva, Barry, and Yaya Toure, I thought he was outstanding, in not only breaking up their attacks, but also in starting our own. I will add though, he was ably assisted by Adam and Henderson in shutting down the space afforded to citys' midfield, and Downing and Kuyt kept their full backs occupied, most of the time. Lucas, I salute you!
absolutely brilliant performance, according to the lfc.tv stats thing he won100% of his tackles well, as did Agger. Constantly won the ball off city as well as getting many interceptions and distributin well. Adam also deserves recognition for another fantastic performance
MOTM all day long and was head and shoulders over the other midfielders, the thing was he never put one pass astray either.
Lucas and adam were both amazing again, Its looking to me like we have the best central midfield pairing in the PL. Just a shame we couldn't finish any of the plether of chance's they created.
Absolutely brilliant. I think most Liverpool fans know how good he is but when rival fans start acknowledging it, you know as a player he has come of age. 6 million definitely well spent.
He has to be considered one of our World Class players now surely, He'd get in to any other team in the Premierleague. Class!
I've rated Lucas for quite a long time now, but he is continuing to grow in stature without doubt. I watched the match yesterday with an arch Lucas-hater. Even he said Lucas was having a great game.
Lucas Leiva is receiving plenty of plaudits for his performance in the 1-1 draw Here are some of the best Opta numbers from the game: Lucas and Daniel Agger both triumphed in 100 per cent of their tackles. Lucas also won far more duels than any other midfielder on 81.3 per cent. And the Brazilian had most touches for Liverpool with 91. Jose Enrique was next on 88. For City, Gareth Barry was involved most with 93 touches. Joleon Lescott was the most accurate defender when it came to passing the ball. 92.7 per cent of his kicks reached their destination. Martin Skrtel came out on top among our back four with 85.7 per cent. In midfield, Yaya Toure and Lucas both made 75 passes and both had a completion rate of 92 per cent. Charlie Adam, meanwhile, was the most ambitious midfielder, playing it 'long' with 23.2 per cent of his passes. Of all the forwards who started the game, Luis Suarez had the best pass accuracy with 81.6 per cent. Liverpool had 17 shots (six on target) to Manchester City's seven (three on target). Fourteen of Liverpool's efforts were from inside the box - City's figure here was four. They also prevailed in the physical battle - winning 56.7 per cent of duels and 61.9 per cent of aerial tussles. The pass count was Liverpool 502-489 Manchester City. The visitors were slightly more accurate with the ball, finding a teammate on 85.1 per cent of occasions to Liverpool's 81.1 per cent. Downing and co centred 35 crosses in total compared with City's 13. Roberto Mancini's rearguard had to make a whopping 36 clearances - 13 of which were executed by the impressive Vincent Kompany. Lucas is really looking the part now - when he started at liverpool he often looked lost in midfield - he is getting stronger and has shown a great attitude to keep going despite the abuse hurled at him take a bow lucas
Still waiting to get proper highlights of the game as I missed (again) due to doing a coaching badge. Heard we should have taken all 3 points but after Chelsea and City, coming away with 4 points is good and beating Chelsea who are catchable is the better win of the two. Would have liked to have seen Bellamy play but when you get news like that of a good friend, I completely understand why. I know he would have been really up for this game but somethings are much much more important
This shows how players need time to settle. Lucas showed us glimpses in his first year but not often enough but over time has got better and better, we could easily command £25m for him now, possibly more. Give it 3-4years and we'll be saying the same about Henderson
The thing with Hendo is that he may not be that great but you see glimpses of the player he will turn out to be. He has a bit of skill and he has proven that he is a good passer of the ball. His crosses are very good and I'm sure he will get many assists for Carroll in the future.
Lucas is becoming an absolutely dominating presence in midfield. Is anyone else really excited at just how good he could become? I genuinely think he could be top 5 in the world in his role during his prime. Benitez always stood by him, and i remember Dunga (think he was the Brazilian manager who said it) saying Lucas was a future Brazil captain and his first name on the team sheet. Both of these guys were laughed at by rival fans, which just goes to show what fans sometimes know!
LMAO@ all the I always said he'd turn out good ect ect. Thing is, he was still sheite then, and he is delivering now, so the man who brought him in was the one who could see what he would become, tbh no better league, if he was in spain or italy he would not have turned into the 'solid styfling and now with added passing' player that he is now, this league suits him no end for developing into the monster that is Lucas!!!
The moment for me was when Toure was running through the middle and Lucas kept up with him and out muscled him to win the ball back. Compare that to the Lucas of 2-3 seasons a go it was like a different player. I do now feel a lot more confident when he's on the ball in front of the back four and his forward passing has improved dramatically. Best midfielder we have playing at the moment.
