If we look at correlations, if you think of the timing of the transition from sail to steam and how it correlates with some of the temperature graphs, it can be argued that the decline in piracy follows the same trend, so there should be a concerted effort to increase piracy to mitigate global warming.

No only a verbal fight, a couple who just came in joined as well so it’s obviously a big thing beating kids, imagine your kids being so **** scared of you that they clam up the minute they walk into a restaurant because they know a beating is coming otherwise, yes it’s a never ending circle when you hit kids.
Oh and thinking back I got the cane and slipper and up until a few years ago, I said that kids today should get same, so I was brainwashed into thinking it did good, it never did me any good, I was still a twat at school after multiple thrashings.

We'd most probably all get on board with this, but I think the analogy isn't great. Sure, you would take your car to a mechanic rather than a baker, but who hasn't heard of someone being ripped off by a mechanic (insert trade as appropriate)?
You ask me for the name of a mechanic and I give you one(a name!), you go and use him then come back a few weeks later saying he ripped you off. I say, yes, that happened to me too. Now, you will tell me that you have used your mechanic over a number of years and you have built a reciprocal relationship of trust. Fine. Our relationship with climate experts could hardly be described as one of trust - toxic more like: how many things have they been wrong about over the years?
Now think of how our lives are governed by people making decisions based on inaccurate or sometimes deliberately misleading 'evidence' presented in studies by 'qualified experts' - that sounds like an abusive relationship to me.
I think 'they' rely on the majority of us not having detailed knowledge on things and going along with everything because frankly we're too busy getting on with life. And what does it benefit someone thinking something is amiss than someone who doesn't think about it at all? And if one dissents too loudly or effectively, well, he's just a conspiracy theory nut job.

Edit: can't express how disappointed I am that the Jordan Peterson aficionados seem to have missed the Cathy Newman reference. I thought that was a meme, as the kids say.

British comedian Kenneth Horne's radio show "Beyond Our Ken" featured a gardener called Arthur Fallowfield, played by Kenneth Williams. His response to any question was always :

"Well, I think the answer lies in the soil".

Enough of this, I'm off for a drive in my neutron fueled Mini-Cooper. Full tank anarl.

"I'd like to order poppycock and fries please."

I see Starmer was in Scotland to announce his plans for British Energy and his drive for net zero and a carbon free future. And how did he get there ? Not by train. Not by a commercial flight. But in a private jet. Something Sunak was criticised for using by some who have remained silent on Sir Kneel doing the same.

New report shows world coal production grew by 4% in 2023

In 2023, world coal production grew by around 4% to a new record high of over 8 billion tonnes. Estimates differ on the precise number, but it is clear that predictions of “peak coal” have been repeatedly wrong.

whilst total UK coal burn might be significantly down in recent years, we've out sourced much of our coal burn overseas as we import more products such as steel and cement from elsewhere in the world

Yeah, let's see who's laughing when all those other countries get hit by global warming and we don't. They'll be wishing they'd outsourced their pollution and emissions too. He who laughs last ....

Its a bit weird this 'told you so' thing especially when regardless of global warming or not

    Combustion engines
Mass burning of fossil fuels are incredibly unhealthy for you

If i had kids, id be happier if streets werent full of cars emitting toxic fumes
    But thats just me

I'd hazard a guess that the majority of posters on this thread that want diesel and petrol cars to continue indefinitely and coal burning power stations back won't be working as miners, nor living in heavily built-up urban environments or alongside main roads.

So, where will the power come from on windless, overcast skies? We have reduced out already low carbon emissions by half, more than another industrialised country, whilst emissions have gone up elsewhere. Whilst we have been talking about building one runway in the last 10 years India has doubled its airports, China have built 52 airports with more under construction and both are opening coal fired power stations at the rate of one a week in each country. We have problems making steel due to the lack of coking plants and have to import it. That adds to even more pollution due to the cost of transporting it here and puts prices up and leaves us at the mercy of others.
Plenty of mining communities have complained about the lack of mines to work in since Mrs T’s days.
Someone, somewhere, will be mining in atrocious conditions for the necessary materials for batteries, many of them below secondary school age. It seems some are not as concerned about them as long as we can virtue signal in the mad dash towards net zero.

Is Noway stopping oil exploration as some in this country want us to do?

Some of those that see themselves as 'green' appear to be largely 'educated' by fear porn, and have a very narrow, selfish view of the issues.
