Firstly, his game has already improved massively since August. People criticised him for dwelling too long on the ball against Fulham and that is fair. But those people are also forgetting the flashes of brilliance he showed, particularly towards the start of the game.

There was one time where he received the ball with his back to goal and with his first touch he increased the pace of the pass to send it towards RVP. And I thought "I can't remember Cesc doing that". It doesn't sound so amazing in this description and the pass didn't reach. But if you saw it, you'll understand. He has that higher level of reading the play. The level that only players like Cesc, Xavi and Iniesta have.

He has been injured. And he has lost effectively 2 years of development while losing that youthful pace and the bursts running forward. He's getting them back. This isn't an excuse for him, more an explanation of his play. These flashes of brilliance are becoming more numerous every game. However, unlike many players, this period of finding his feet, he's not sloppy. Of course he's not Xavi in terms of reliable passing, but when he turns away from goal and finds a backwards pass, it's to keep possession. He went to make a pass forward, but he got his shape wrong and didn't have time to correct it. So he makes sure he keeps the ball. That's an admirable quality and a sign of level headedness from such a young player.

He runs his socks off every game. He turns up on the right, left, forward, corner flag, centre back and at fullback. He's a box to box midfielder. And he's better at it than Arteta, who we love, is. He will always play a player into space, especially around the box, with either a chip over the top, a cross or a through ball. They may be passes we all see, but he keeps making them. And that creates chances. Especially as he's got Walcott, Gervinho and RVP to feed. Players who suit his style.

We are all hailing Wilshere as the messiah. Ramsey was considered better and, I've been convinced, still is. I thought Wilshere was reliable, if not special, last season. In pre-season he did take a massive step up in his game and I was gutted, for that reason, to see him injured. Him and Ramsey are a scary thought and yes it'd be nice to have Erickson, Goetze or whatever at the club as well. But Ramsey is a classy player. A midfield of him, Song and Wilshere could dominate for an entire decade.

He also has skills. He takes the ball past players and, for some unknown reason, people are criticising him for trying to take people on. I'm sorry, I thought these same people were criticising Arsenal last season for always trying to pass their way into the net. There's a touch of Kaka about Ramsey at times. The way he can receive the ball in those tight spaces and then beat a player.

These are all things I've seen in flashes. And I expect to see them more consistently as the season wears on. I posted this article as a reaction to the criticisms of him. I think they're really unfair. At this point in time he is as good as Arteta. That's why they've formed a good partnership. But, unlike Arteta, Ramsey has a huge way still to go.

If the keeper hadn't pulled out a frankly brilliant fingertip save to deny Ramsey at the start of the game, he wouldn't be getting any of the stick.

Yeah. Was a fantastic shot from him. At the start of the game he was nigh on unplayable. I think he's suffering from fatigue. It's time to give Rosicky a few starts in that position I think.
