They are not wholly committing to EVs and are increasing production of conventional cars. Can’t compete against cheap Chinese ones. Which is another problem as there are quaysides of Chinese ones that aren’t getting shifted.

That makes sense with the lack of infrastructure here in the UK.

Ye, it's fair to say that the big Chinese companies are/or were part-funded by the state and subsidised as such.

If Trump gains power, he supposedly has said that there will be a 100% import tax on them and the major EU manufacturers are in a court process to get them taxed higher. So this will have a big impact, but ultimately, the consumer will pay more. Flooding the market with cheap EVs will only be a good thing for the consumer... Who wants to pay more for cars?

Like what happened with motorbikes and then cars. Used to know the first person in EastYorkshire who had a Honda CB450 when they first came out. He was a rider for the RAF display team. I remember when he parked it up in Queen Street where all the bikers gathered, the scooter lot were all on the sea front, and he was surrounded by owners of BSA, Norton, Triumphs etc curious about this strange looking machine. We all know what happened in the years after that. Cheap EV vehicles flooding the country is not a good thing.

The British makes back then were more expensive and hugely unreliable in comparison - leaked oil. The consumer benefited, as the British makes surviving nowadays are much higher quality.

Or it will make European industry adapt and innovate - as competition should do.

The workers making them didn’t benefit or the people involved in selling them. Not everyone could go work abroad in a well paid job.

I think it doesn't start to kick in until 2026 - Trump was going to be immediate... Could be wrong on this.

Does that count as a breakdown? I would say not and they should get charged for it.

Have breakdown services never been called out because a car has run out of diesel or petrol?

Not really. Any semi decent ev now gives fair warning when they're short of battery power - in the newer ones, you can program the map app so it shows you the nearest available charging points within range at any point where you are. Modern EVs charge from 10 to 80% in under 30 minutes. The same ppl who ran out of petrol will run out of charge.. same as it ever was.
