What do you mean when will they start? Page 1 of this 93 page thread I'm guessing.

How can anyone be anti Walter yet?

He's not even got his foot through the door yet and people opinions of him will be based primarily on results.

Obviously the previous incumbent has set a bar. But if we kick on then all will be well.

If we go backwards the decision will come under increased scrutiny.

Anyone entrenching a position now is basically doing so based on their own predisposition and nothing else, as there is nothing else to go on.

Two great little clips on how Tim Walter likes his teams to play out from the back and get the ball forward quickly.

This was the main problem with Liams style for me, not enough work done on what to do when the back 4 have the ball. Whereas in the clips, there's lots of player movement but its not random, its to create space or for dragging the opposition away from an area and then exploiting it.

Im looking forward to seeing this style of football at home games this season.

    I don’t think I’ve seen anyone who is anti-Walter.

Cautious maybe. Disappointed because they didn’t agree a change was needed.

But they aren’t the same as anti-Walter.

One thing that is a fact is, is that Walter is proven at achieving what Acun wants. His sides are always top of the chances created staats

Someone saying earlier that it's a similar style to Rosenior's just with more attacking intent. Well if those clips are typical of how Walters teams play out from the back then we can see it's actually nothing like Rosieball (thankfully)!

From what I’ve seen he certainly is a lot more risk taking and direct.

I was probably referring to those who don’t like building out from the back generally. The risk taking Walter prefers is going to give some people some uncomfortable games.

Not disagreeing by the way. Because I do think LR was inherently more defensive minded. More I think the two share similarities of wanting to control possession which fans of LR would appreciate. Probably my fault for not being clearer

I could easily dig out a few select clips of city this season and crate an impression of Rosie playing amazing attacking football from playing out from the back And attacking quickly. Think Southampton away etc. doesn’t mean it’s representative of how city played through the season.
I’ll be happier judging a manager based on performances over a couple of seasons once he’s moulded the squad in his image. I’m just not sure that I’ll get that opportunity if we sack managers as soon as things aren’t perfect, which is very quickly when the knives start getting sharpened on here and the owner is taking notice.

Been watching a lot of Walter games since the rumours. At least as many as I can readily available. These clips are a fair reflection on his play style

The principles are largely similar just what Walter sacrifices is a defensive shape deep in our own half when possessing the ball. The pro of this is that it can create mismatches. The con is if the ball is lost there’s little to no hope of a defensive structure being there to mop up like Rosenior’s used to have

Yet all the german journos and podcasters speaking of Walters style all say its great when it works but awful when teams sit in and they cant find a way through and the ball just goes from side to side with few shots.

Which is the point. When any football works it's great and when it doesn't its ****e.

No one has it all their own way. Ever. That's just the nature of the game.

To be fair I don't think there's many on here that have a problem with building from the back or with possession football. The problem we've had is there hasn't generally been much 'building' and it became too tiresome seeing us not quite take the game to the opposition on too many occasions. I don't think there are many suggesting we simply go to route one football all the time.

My only question mark over Walter's style is purely whether or not it'll translate to the Championship, and hopefully we'll get to find out soon. My other question mark is how quickly the players we have will be able to pick this up because it's almost the polar opposite to what we've been doing with the ball, other than possibly that stint towards the end of the season when the handbrake came off. I really like the look of the way the system works for Walter though and it could end up being a really smart move to bring him in. Goes either way though obviously, and success will depend on the team we have in place come the start of the season.

I saw a few as the season progressed questioning the build up style as the there was an inherent risk losing the ball deep. This became 2nd when the slow build up became the main issue.

As for your point about it translating. I can see it initially working. My main concern is it requires a high amount of energy and I’m not sure of sustaining that in a 50 game season

It could be an advantage initially, but sides learn sooner or later as we already found when teams came and didn't press as it plays into our hands.

After that you need a plan b to find a way through. Rosey struggled to find that. So did Walter at HSV by all accounts.
