At least thats what the Daily Fail is saying:

Sunderland boss Bruce has two games to rescue job
    Submitted by tribalfootball.com on Mon, 11/28/2011 - 07:20
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is on the brink.

The Daily Mail says Bruce has two games to get his season back on track, and win back the club’s unhappy supporters.

Bruce was subjected to vitriolic and insulting chants by a large section of more than 37,000 home fans after Franco di Santo capitalised on a horrific error by Wes Brown in stoppage time to secure an unlikely win for Wigan, their first in 10 and first away from home.

Owner and chairman Ellis Short sat beside former chairman Niall Quinn as their team missed numerous chances and failed to secure only their third home win of the year, and second this season. The pair could not ignore the furious reaction after Di Santo had stroked the messy winner home.

Sunderland now travel to Wolves, before the home game with Blackburn. After that it is Tottenham and QPR away, followed by Stadium of Light visits on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day for Everton and Manchester City.

Short is reluctant to tear up Bruce’s contract, knowing the impact it would have on the entire running of the club, but is seriously considering making him the Barclays Premier League’s first managerial casualty of the season. The next two games will help decide Bruce’s fate.

Gutted if this is true..yet another 2 games gone to try and make something of this season..another 2 games with a failed manager. another 2 games where fans will spend hard earned money to support our club with no faith in the manager. Why the hell is Short going to give Bruce another 2 games just to add to his pathetic stats. Beyond belief if this is true.

Two games to save his job!

He's just had them and got 1 point.
If by some gift of god he's got another 2 games it's a minimum of 6 points.

He's had a full year/season of job saving games and ****ed up every single one of them. I'm not reading too much into this to be honest but, if true then the fans will have a field day with him Short is only prolonging the agony if he gives him 2 more games. The time to act is now while we can still get something out of this mare of a season and, we are still within touching distance of the teams above us. Not in a few weeks time when the gap has widened and we are bottom 3.

The amount of times I've heard he's got this many games left to turn the season around, "give him a couple more games to prove himself", "the real test is the next couple of games", "we should be looking to get 9 points from our next 3 games". It's all bullshit, he's had more than a fair crack at the whip. Time to go.

To be honest if he is going now is the right time. Give the new manager a month to look at the squad before the window opens and then make the changes he thinks fit. I dont thing we need a lot of change in the squad to be honest ust the left side and up top, it is more a case of what to do with the talent we have at the club.

Our honest manager? from the Guardian

Steve Bruce doesn't know his (own) history

Sunderland fans were demanding the exit of Steve Bruce following the home defeat against Wigan but the Black Cats' manager was standing firm in the face of criticism: "I've never given up on anything in football. My intention is certainly not to walk away or quit, that's not in my nature."

Hmmm. Let's have a little history lesson:

Tuesday 18 May 1999 Bruce walks out on Sheffield United after only 11 months in charge, claiming his position had been made untenable by the financial demands of his board.

20 May 2001 Bruce walks out on Wigan to take over at Crystal Palace.

13 Dec 2001 Bruce is unveiled at Birmingham after walking out on Crystal Palace. "I have got that label [of being disloyal] but I knew two months ago that I would have it if I came here. I have apologised to the players and supporters of Crystal Palace but this was the right move for Steve Bruce."

19 Nov 2007 Walks out on Birmingham to join Wigan (again). "From the very start ... he was keen to come to Wigan," says chairman Dave Whelan.

4 June 2009 "It didn't take much to persuade me to come here, it's a perfect step," says Bruce after walking out on Wigan to take charge of Sunderland. JA

I cannot believe this waste of space hasn't been sacked yet.

It's absolutely pathetic if the club don't sack him today.

Even if we win the next 2 games (unlikely, I know) I still want him gone. The line has been crossed and there's no coming back in my eyes

as a mag i do have the occassional smile at whats happening down the road BUT....
i would have thought he's had his 2 games to prove himself and if you don't act now to resolve the situation i can see it getting much worse.
you need to get at least 4 points out of the next 2 games to push away from the bottom and relieve some pressure.
at lot of the time a new manager has an instant impact, which is whats needed against wolves and blackburn, more so cos they are near you in the league.
i don't want you to get relegated, as to me the most important 2 games of the season are the derby games

This!!! There are 2 matches that fill me with nerves and excitement in the week leading up to games and it is our matches. It is good for the region to have both clubs up and doing well. You need to get rid of Bruce and ASAP!

    Mag in peace

As tempting as it would be to come on here and spout nonsense, I do think that Bruce has gone way, waaaay past his sell by date now.

My best mate is a Mackem, and he has been a hardcore Bruce supporter, constantly arguing that he should stay, be given time etc. etc, but the Wigan game was a tipping point for him I think and even he now admits that Bruce needs to go.

I'm just curious as to whether others who were fervent Bruce supporters are still standing by him, or whether the Wigan game has turned all of your fans against him? I don't want you to go down, the derbies are the best two weeks of the season.

When we get Mags agreeing with us on Bruce out it surely is time for him to do the right thing and walk. I agree with you guys about the importance of the Derby games and how we all look forward to them.

I hope Niall does not be seen by the sky t v cameras next sunday, if he goes to the match. It is sad to see him looking miserable when we are losing away, and also for the thousands of supporters who pay god knows what to watch the team, as i know what it is like as i travelled all over the country watching SAFC in the 1980's when it was a fiver for a ticket and £5 for the coach trip, i was at Notts county (1-6) Newcastle new years day 1985 1-3, and what finished me going to away games was the 6-0 defeat in the league cup at Derby. Why has this club not improved ?, we need a director from Arsenal or Spurs here to get things organised, and a foreign manager and coach. And as for Bruce saying his family were there and he did not like the flack he was getting, what does he expect?, we played for 20 mins on saturday then stopped.
