Have we ever had 20 different goalscorers (not allowing for own goals in our favour) in a single season before this? That stat is mental.
If you think about how many actual **** up goals we gave away that impacted the match result, we could easily have finished 5th, or even 4th. We had a spate of games where individual cock ups really cost us points. And to be fair, Tripps was probably the worst culprit. Our goalscoring has been phenominal, but those errors at the back need fixing.
Yeah give Eddie more time, doing things back to front atm but probably exactly where we should be at present - no one would have grumbled with top 10 last year and then 7th this year would be good progress. Europa Conference is a decent competition to play in and potentially win (if we get in). If we are playing Europa League following year I'd give him that season as well. Do worry about his ability to win cups but definitely give him another season minimum. Agree we've done well going forwards but strange how we've gone from one of the better defensive units (33 conceded last year) in the league to Swiss cheese this year (62 goals conceded). P.s. - not a dig at Schar. Is it because we've gone more attacking? Do think we need a proper DM next season, release Bruno a bit further forwards as well so he can be his creative best on the edge of the opposition box. If we can find that balance between the last 2 seasons in regards to the defensive and offensive output next season we'll be back in the CL in no time.
I think the biggest factors in our defence, as there were a few, were the lack of Nick Pope and Joelinton for long periods. We lead the Premier League for injuries - that more than anything must change.
