Button finished the season a measly 13 points ahead of Alonso. Given Ferrari's lack of downforce, lack of mechanical grip, poor balance, issues with tyre warm-up and problems with the prime tyre, how the hell did you come to the conclusion that Button was best of the rest behind Vettel?
Yes, it's got to be Vettel, I'm afraid. Difficult to separate Alonso and Button for best of the rest. What's wrong with this forum? We seem to be in agreement.
Not quite, it seems! You know what Forza? I don't quite agree with you; but it would appear to be a small point, so let's not get too excited eh? Alonso was superb this season. But in my opinion, Button was slightly better. That's all.
Don't forget to take into account that Button had 2 DNFs that were out of his control. And it's difficult to know how his team-mate's performance flattered Alonso. On balance, if I had a team and an unlimited budget, Alonso and Button would be my first choice drivers. I have not changed that assessment for about 6 years.
Can we have a 'who's driver of the season other than Vettel?' You can't not give it to Vettel. He had the best car and he did the job in it with such profession and ease. Other than Vettel. It can only go to one man for me. Jenson Button. First man to ever beat Lewis Hamilton in the same car. One of the drives in formula one history in Canada. Unbelievably consistent in the Grand Prixs. And let's remember he retired from two GPs in a row in the summer. He's the only man that convinced me that had his bum been in Webber's seat for this season then he would have given Vettel a real challenge. But a special shout out to Alonso as well. He must have been frustrated in that car but he kept his head down and picked up a good load of points almost every time. I'd love to see Alonso back at the top challenging regularly for wins.
Good call McF. I'm not bothered about another poll but I'd second what you've said about the stars of the season.
I voted for Button, but I thought Alonso drove brilliantly this season. But when it comes to excellent judgement, consistency and razor sharp overtaking Button simply wasted everyone.
Yeah, I am... I'd be well and truly off my trolley to suggest that Hamilton is the driver of the season.
1st Vettel - he did nothing wrong all season 2nd Button - Showed his class this season when I think most people (including me) expected him to suffer 3rd Alonso - Great driving all season, and out drove his car.
Vettel, Button and Alonso were the big 3 of the season. Shame Vettel stormed the title as it would of been a good title race between them 3
Button's had a strong second half of the season but he was mostly lacklustre in the first few races, notably Turkey where he was too slow to make the strategy work (noted by Ted in his post-race blog) and also Valencia where he was outdriven by Massa.
Forza, didn't Massa also beat Alonso a few times early on? I'm gonna go with the crowd on this one Vettel - simply magnificent all season Button - Wasn't just a radical new car that was uncovered by McLaren this season, Jensen Button had an aggression upgrade, and beat the golden boy easily. Alonso - driven very well this season, but how good is the car? I'd say the car is better than people think, and has a definite advantage over the McLaren during the opening laps of races. Rookie. I'm going to go with Perez, although not much to choose between him and Di Resta, but I feel DiResta has had a fairly consistently good car whereas Perez has battled with a fairly inconsistent Sauber.
Has to be Button and Alonso they both have drove brilliantly this season also credit to vettel he has done the best with the best machinery. These 3 have gone to another Level this year and will be very interesting to see if they can carry it over to 2012 ?
1st : Vettel - Flawless, dominant sometimes unbeatable. 2nd : Button - Beat Lewis, Great drive in Canada, Consistent good pace. 3rd: Sutil - Really good drive in Germany and Brazil, Consistently put the Force India in the top 10 in Qualifying. Rookie of the season : Di Resta - Sensational year, points in first race, notable great drives in Singapore and Hungary, sometimes beating Sutil and definitely got a lot of potential in him.
I had no clue whereelse i should post this find, so i do here. Nice Vettel video summary:
