I can't believe anyone would crib about Shay Given leaving us. He was with the club for over 10 years, what do people want??? Yes he left at a time when we could have done with him but its hardly the reason we went down is it. He'd had enough, the club was a ****ing shambles and had been since Bobby went. He'd had his fill of false promises and waiting for the club to sort itself out. It was ****ing his career up. As it turned out he made an unfortunate move because Hart progressed at a rapid rate no one expected. Absolute legend for this club, a really nice fella and a very very loyal servant. It was purely about football, and we wanted to sell him anyway to generate funds. Will we ever accept that players move on? It does my head in with our fans I must admit. Players come and go, that's football. To hate them the minute they walk out the door, continually posting bile about them and the clubs they go to is just childish.

Hopefully Colo will see out the rest of his career with us! You're right with Shola. Fair enough, he may possibly be the most frustrating player to have ever worn the Black n White. But, no one can question his commitment to the cause. It's great he is still here, to help guide young Sammy through the opening stages of his career. Who, with the right guidance can turn into a quality player.

Try get up as often as possible. But, work has me tied down alot on weekends. So, I havent been up anywhere near as much as I would liked too. Yeah, there's a fair few Mag's over here. But, just as many Mackems. So, its always interesting going into pubs in the city to watch the Derby. Good banter, without getting too heated.

Ha, can imagine a fair few Mackems venture down to Scarborough for their hols. The derby will be interesting, considering Bruce will be going soon. There is no doubt about that. So, seeing how Sunderland will react to a new man in charge for the derby, will be very intriguing. Can imagine, they'll strive under new management, and will almost certainly give us a tight game. Won't be any 5-1 scorelines im afraid.

    This

Totally agree with you WP. I cannot understand any criticism of Shay and I have never blamed him for leaving us when he did. I always thought that he was a top bloke and still do.

Shay has just lost a very good friend. Good on him for showing his feelings but also playing for Villa. I hate Villa but Shay will always be a Toon hero to me.

Aye, was also good of the Swansea fans to applaud Shay aswell. Was very brave of him, to play so soon after hearing of the death of a friend. I lost my best friend a few months ago. And the feeling is absolutely devastating. So, to go out and play football in front of 20,000 people takes courage. Deserves respect

For people to lose respect for Shay Given is an absolute joke. They are clueless.

Given was one of the great keepers we've ever had, he was always called upon, he is one of the most app's players for us, more than the likes of Shearer and Milburn!
People seem to forget the days of Europe where he played every game for three seasons running, I think it was 02, 03, 04 seasons. He was here so long and with Harper, the legacy of great keepers continues in Krul, as chances are, Harper and Given were both great mentors to Krul.
He was a great, loyal servant and I will always be fond of him. He was here over 10 years.

We were in a dire situation when he left, and after 10 years at Newcastle, i don't blame him for leaving, he wanted a fresh new challenge to win trophies. He thought he would get it at City.

That was the other thing bugging me about the cribbing Given. They forget that one of the reasons Tim Krul is so good, is because he had a world class keeper mentoring him day in day out in the early part of his career.
