I have not but from the sounds of it, it seems like La Masia has their Busquets regen <laugh>

Incidentally, I think defensive midfield is Barça’s biggest weakness at the moment. Oriol Romeu just isn’t good enough to play for Barça and Gündoğan isn’t really effective as a sole holding midfielder and he’s wasted there anyway. I think they’ll spend big to sign one this summer.

Did brilliant at Espanyol, Southampton and Spurs, eyes lit up when PSG came in. All downhill from there. He'll never have to work again anyway.

They should have won the league, but he still oversaw Spurs' best finishes for ages and they were competitive under him at least.

It's been conclusively said it's not Bayern. Plus their season has finished now hasn't it so they could announce him if so.

    It'll be United.

there wasn't much football on tuesday, but i spotted a familiar name.

the top french division, ligue 1, was reduced from 20 teams to 18 in the summer of 2023 with four teams relegated and two promoted. after that, it's back to normal, though this hasn't quite been normal.

the top 2 in ligue 2 replace the bottom 2 in ligue 1. oddly, the teams in 16th and 17th had the same points and the same goal difference, but the team that scored more goals came 17th and the team that scored fewer came 16th. wiki says that should be the other way round and soccerbase shows it the other way round, so it remains a puzzle for me to solve.

    okay, i found it.
may19th. in the final league games, the bottom two teams, lorient and clermont faced each other. lorient had a chance of catching metz, who were three points ahead but had a goal difference of -21. lorient had a goal difference of -28 and so needed an overall change of 8 goals in their favour. as it happened, metz faced league champions paris st germaine but without top scorer mbappe.
lorient did their bit, winning 5-0, but metz only lost 0-2, putting the teams together on points and goal difference, now both -23.
the next thing was points from the games against each other. three each, with the away team winning both games.
and then goals scored against each other. the games ended 1-2 and 2-3, so they'd both scored 4 goals against the other.
the next criterion was who'd scored more away goals in the two fixtures, and metz had scored 3, one more than lorient.
i wonder if they've needed to use that 6th criterion before.

the format for play-offs to get from ligue 2 to ligue 1, or to stay in ligue 1, is as follows:

the teams 4th and 5th in ligue 1 play off. one game, 4th placed team at home.
the winners of that play away to the 3rd placed team.
the winners of that play away to the club that finished 16th in ligue 1.

anyway, tuesday evening had the first game, rodez v paris fc.

in the 4th minute, paris fc went ahead courtesy of a goal from nouha dicko, formerly of this borough.

"Nouha Dicko (Paris FC) connects with a pass inside the box and slams home into the bottom right corner. The goalkeeper was helpless."

rodez levelled in the 8th minute and
    went ahead in the 33rd

paris's mbow managed to get himself booked in the 37th minute and again in the 48th, leaving the visitors a harder task.

in the 53rd minute, dicko was replaced.

deep into fergie time - 90+7, paris made it 2-2,

there was no extra time and it was penalties straight away.

rodez missed but paris didn't, 0-1
    both missed, 0-1
rodez missed but paris didn't, 0-2

rodez scored but paris didn't, 1-2
rodez scored but paris didn't, 2-2

    and onto the 6th penalties
rodez scored but paris didn't, 3-2

so ex-tiger dicko isn't getting promoted.

the next game is on friday evening.

He's had a unpredicted major operation and is now recovering. He's given the job up because he wants to recover and spend time with his family. He's hoping to get back into Managing in the future.
