ok here is a valid point - if united were denied a penalty in a match and the referee was asked about it and he said "it was difficult as this particular player is always diving and i was afraid he was at it again"

how would fergie respond to this honest opinion by a match official

Nonsense point. Ref's never explain their decisions and that's part of the problem. The problem can be solved by replays.

Coloccini didn't make a deal of it because he's a class act all round, but just because he's a big enough man to get up and shake hands doesn't detract from the sheer brutality and anger in Rooney's attack.

Whatever. Even Alan Shearer a NUFC legend said there was nothing in it.

imagine the situation and tell me how would fergie react - this is the problem - managers can slate referees after a game but referees are not allowed defend themselves - fergie uses this situation to put refs under pressure by implying that they might find themselves unemployed if they give decisions against united - i'm not just talking about yesterday - fergie has regularly insulted referees when he had no cause even accusing one of being unfit

All managers have questioned ref's, including Dalglish who hypocritically before hand had called on managers to respect ref's! <laugh> All managers apply pressure to ref's, including Dalglish and Wenger and I remember Rafa doing so. Stop applying this to SAF only. The officials cocked it up big time. End of.

so if colloccini rolled around the pitch in agony then you would agree that rooney should have been carded - seems collocini not reacting justfies rooney kicking him - by this arguement if a player spits at another player and that player does not react then it is ok to do it

SAF using empty words. You know he has no power to remove officials. All top managers put pressure on ref's, not just SAF.

Rooney did not try to kick the lad intentionally. Suarez on the other hand did intentionally bite another player.

i suppose rooney didn't elbow a certain wigan player after which fergie said "ive seen it again and there's nothing to it" while his sidekick phelan followed with "the referee allowed the game to flow and we are happy with that"

    a pair of hypocrites

Point being well proven here as I read on <doh> just because not every player crumples into a heap like Ronaldo and Nani after an incident does not change the mgnitude or punishment an incident should recieve. So if he punched him and Colo didnt react its still ok? its that sort of attitude that has led to the scourge of playacting

Given the hot-headed nature of Rooney's game I can see why Newcastle fans are aggrieved by the challenge on their defender, he did seem to kick out with a bit more force than necessary, but I take my hat off to Coloccini who made nothing of it and got up and shook Rooney's hand. Let's face it, if that was Joey Barton that Rooney was trying to retrieve the ball from, the odds are that Joey would have got up and lamped Rooney, so I'm more than happy that Coloccini stood up like a man and shrugged it off.

It was a ref/linesman combination that ultimately robbed us on Saturday, their player, Ben Arfa didn't roll around looking for a penalty and looked rather surprised when the ref actually awarded it so there's no element of cheating going on there.

I think we all know that we need to be more clinical in front of goal. Historically United would have put more than 1 goal past the Newcastle 'keeper and the penalty that never was, would be then rendered insignificant. The fact is, that we have a strike force worth over £100m easy and only one of them has found the net since the 2nd of October in the Premier League, which is Hernandez.

Wigan just beat Sunderland 2-1 on their own turf, and we had to rely on an ex-United defender to put the ball in his own net at Old Trafford to get 3 points.

I'm more worried about our failure to convert chances than teams getting dodgy decisions against us.
