I'd like to see a young British/Irish (born in England) coach get a chance at one of the big clubs. It's arguably better for the game here than them drafting in yet another big name foreigner. Wouldn't like to see him get chewed up and spat out like Potter was though.
Fully agree, thats my concern if he does go too, be interesting to see what route Ipswich go down if he does go, rob edwards/cooper? Safe pair of hands
The feeling is its mainly personal reasons but apparently Chelsea have a..... Modle, Tommy before Poch didn't want to work to it (sell home grown players for 100 profit) and apparently the club are looking to shift 2 on and Poch doesn't want them sold.
I heard he was close to leaving in Jan. The club were desperately trying to sell Gallagher (stupid as he was probably their 2nd best player this season) due to FFP concerns Poch really rates gallagher and managed to keep him but theres a good chance he will get sold in the summer
While his stock is high he needs to take the right opportunity if it comes along. Spend a season struggling at Ipswich and a few doors might close just as the hype around Kompany has settled down. Not sure if Chelsea is it though.
The whole manager/head coach thing. There is nothing we can do. I Have a look a couple of times a day and can usually tell by the number of posts nothing has happened. Too old now to worry about it As you say close season.
Yeah i really like him, has a bit of everything in his game I know a couple youngsters in their academy are looking at leaving as the focus is going on signing loads of youngsters instead of developing them
I gave up having a managerial preference long ago. I’d been crying out for Martin O’Neill to come in before he did, and we all know how that went. You just don’t know who will hit or miss. So much depends on other factors not associated with their coaching skills. Players & club setup are the 2 obvious ones.
More of the interview with Reims chairman in Fance Bleu https://www.francebleu.fr/sports/fo...e-banaliser-cette-9e-place-de-ligue-1-5851895 "A clause of several million euros that a club would have had to pay to Stade de Reims if it wanted to hire Will Still at the end of this season I decided to abandon this clause and in compensation, he decided to abandon the last year of his contract that he had left. Economically, it was a whitewash for everyone which allowed them to part ways with good friends, which will allow them to focus on another project, which I sincerely hope for them." Wonder if we are that project
That's the key bit he doesn't say. Still left immediately. Did his contract end then or was he on gardening leave until the summer. I suspect he left but was probably still officially contracted to Reims until at least end of the season possibly longer
The "he decided to abandon the last year of his contract" statement suggests that he will be free at the point that the last year of his contract would have started. Someone said the other day that his contract ran until July 2025. That might suggested he'll be free when July 2024 comes round, although the start of June would make more sense based on everything else that has been suggested.
Not entirely sure I am convinced this contract end is relevant. If it were mutually agreed to part ways as revealed then the employment contract can be terminated immediately. In my experience they usually are. Employers dont want to keep paying and employees dont want to be locked in. I would wager there is no clauses in play that prevent Still doing what he wants, or that Reims want to leverage. It also relatively easy to overcome lock in clauses, in employment law, or it used to be anyway. If it is Still far more likely he is driving a really hard bargain to come here and getting every last commitment he can. Likely why odd names land in the media, bit of a hurry up on Still.
