Left back the only issue really. If Shaw isn’t deemed fit we have no natural left back. Would’ve taken Mitchell from Palace as contingency but other than that zero complaints.
From Southgate's comments it sounds like Shaw is unlikely to make it too. It's been a problem position for a while. I guess the thinking is that Trippier and Gomez on the left are better options than taking a natural left back of a lower standard.
Fell out with Steve Holland...didn't he?...White won't make himself available while Southy and Holland are in charge. PS..With that squad England should go a long way, but the inevitable will happen....Out in the QFs on pens.
It's an exciting squad, some top English talent at our disposal, amazing starting 11 and players like Bowen, Watkins, Toney and Eze to come off the bench, looking forward to victory this time.
Gomez can play left-back but at Liverpool he usually inverts as a back three with van Dijk and Konaté in possession and the right-back usually moves into midfield if Alexander-Arnold plays or bombs forward as another winger on the right almost if it’s Bradley. Could work if Southgate intends to start Alexander-Arnold or has Stones move into midfield next to Rice and Walker - Maguire - Gomez form a back three.
Trippier hasn’t even been very good in his natural position this season! Think you’d at the very least take Chilwell
Don't hold out much hope with Southgate in charge; should have left after the last Euros and certainly after the World Cup failure. Either we win or he must be sacked.
