I'm not going to lie, I lost a little respect for him when he went to Man City. Was really disappointed that he left us. But today I remembered why I loved him so much when he was with us. Real hero.

  3. I never lost respect for him. He was with the club for ages, and deserved better than to be in the championship, and it gave Harper and Krul the chances to develop.

The club wasn't in the Championship when he left, they were fighting relegation and he could have tried to help prevent that. Instead he ran off for the big bucks. Serves him right that it ****ed up his career.

He's far worse than the likes of Owen, Duff, etc. Whenever people were beginning to doubt his ability (or when the management gave Harper a game or two) he'd run to the press to go on about how he loved the club and thought of himself as a geordie, but when the club really needed him he ran off for money. At least the other mercenaries stayed.

Agree. He gave us his best years. He wanted a crack at glory that didn't quite work out, I'm not holding that against him. Ashley was probably in his ear pushing him out too to cut the wage bill knowing we had Harps and Krul to come in.

I don't blame Shay for leaving when he did at all. The club we're going down the ****ter, while City were on their way to stardom. He'll have seen it as his last chance of winning a major trophy.

Was horrible watching him in tears today. But, to go on, and play. Deserves massive respect.

I know, its only a reality TV show. But, Robbie needs plaudits for going ahead with Strictly today too. He looked knackered, and lost. But fairplay

Bit pissed off when Shay left, as it was at a pretty bad time, but I've still got a great amount of respect for the guy. We were probably going down anyway. And if we weren't we would've had to put up with the same bloody players and same bloody excuses. Shay was a fantastic player for us and I'll never forget that. Felt for him today. He did good to battle through the game and keep a clean sheet. Bellamy didn't play for the scousers, but Villa needed Shay more than the scousers needed Bellamy. Tough day for everyone who knew Gary. I don't think I've actually ever liked Robbie Savage so much.

I never really felt bitter about Shay; he was my boyhood hero, did a great job for the club for a long time and I didn't begrudge him what he probably saw as a few more days in the sun at City.

I still remember him doing some punditry when we played away at Sheff Utd a couple of years ago and he kept referring to us as "we". One of the players from an opposing team I'll always afford some applause for.

We were 13th in the table, so was a given we would go down, though the way Kinnear was managing the club was shocking. Don't forget how he helped the club progress for 11 and a half years.

    What did Savage do?

  14. City had money and were progressing, he was offered a good opportunity and I don't blame him for taking it. It's very likely that also Ashley tried hard to get shot of him to get rid of his wages, and also because we got 7m for him

You could just tell after the 5-1 home loss to Liverpool Given was fed up. He'd played behind a consistently ****e back 4 for years.

Was just extremly honest about his thoughts for Gary. He reduced me to tears with his interview for BBC News, and again listening to 606.

Which, was an utterly brilliant listen this evening. At the end both Robbie, and the presenter of the show were reducded to tears.

Anyone remember when he was doing punditry on one of our games and he accidentally said "we" instead of them?

    Says it all.

    Edit: Already mentioned.
