Definitely don’t want yes men. Ideally you want a certain tension between head coach and DoF. One focused on short term results and one focused on medium to long term development. The two don’t always go completely hand in hand so there will always be debate between the two. If all was a wonderful happy Disney-esque wonderland then something is wrong. There just needs to be the correct balance between the two of them. That’s where the right personality comes in as far as I’m concerned.
I highly doubt Rosenier is in the frame, weren’t we told something was imminent before he’d lost his job at Hull? When he was sacked I thought “I’d have him” but that was without really paying too much attention to his style of play just that he’d done well with Hull and their fans were gutted. Plus I always thought he seemed to know his stuff when he was a pundit for sky. Then I remembered our games against them and I was put off the idea.
…it clearly wasn’t, though. 12+ weeks since Beale was sacked and we still don’t have our man. Mental.
Yeah they were awful to watch against us, but effective too! Maybe with better bricks he builds a better house I’d have him. Absolutely would I. According to football insider we’ve registered an interest
Not really, the plan is buying younger players they have never said they won't buy older players if there is value for money. Fans weren't complaining about the model when we won promotion then got to playoffs the next season. 1 season we have mid table finish and some just want to sack everybody and scrap the model
Isn't that more important than style of play? I'm not sure why so many people seem to be prioritising quality of football over results, what right have we got to expect sexy football when we've seen very little of it in recent years, apart from that one season under Mowbray which was heavily influenced by the players we had at the time. If we can get a young, intelligent manager who can get us in or around the playoffs I would not reject that on the basis that the football wasn't pretty enough. At some point soonish the target is promotion. We aren't going to spend our way there so a coach who knows how to get points in this league seems a solid plan.
James Young who was head of data and analytics and Akhil Shah the lead data scientist have both left the club fairly recently. Unsure if they have been replaced but I know we outsource a lot of our data analysis now, which to me is not the best way of doing things. You can see with the recruitment of both players and coaches that we aren't as data driven anymore and as someone who is in that line of work it disappoints me.
Recruitment, even using all the best data available, still isn’t an exact science so I don’t think the relatively poorer outcomes more recently are necessarily indicative of us abandoning or lessening our use of data (the lost internal function will be covered by the outsourcing and won’t necessarily mean a drop off in quality). The nature of our recruitment is so reliant on the players being nurtured and developed once they’re here for it to be a success too, so I again find it hard to conclude that the use of data and analysis is sub standard when the structure and atmosphere around the club since December has hardly been conducive to player development. If we were bringing the Amad we signed in in January 2024 instead I really don’t think he’d have impressed here (that’s not reflective of the data but of the head coach debacle).
Purely speculation but I think there's every chance at least one coach has turned us down at this point and we're moving on to plan B or C.
Not easy getting your first choice look at Bayern resorting to trying to keep tuchel because no one wants it
Absolutely. It's not something I'll criticise the club for, but I can't imagine this is how they were planning for it to play out in their ideal scenario.
Atleast we’re trying to be ambitious that’s all you can ask really, it’s a funny time to be looking with seasons and cup finals still going on that’s before you factor in people wanting a holiday, I still think it’ll be a European coach, hopefully svensson, fairly relaxed about it but hope there’s a resolution soon before unrest fully sets in
