What do you expect? It's a derby.

It's not like we were threatening to attack them.

T'was a disgrace, with York. No reason at all to a pick a fight with fans of a non league club. Although, to be fair, it was probably a few jumped up arseholes, at their first game without their parents thinking they were in Green Street.

Alot of the time, trouble is caused by heavy handed policing. Take the Man City fan a few weeks back for example.

    You should have said:

    "You bought a knife....<reveals 2 bulging biceps>....to a gun fight"

We never usually pick fights. Probably because we are in no position to say anything when we're losing every game.

I wouldn't tar all of their fans with the same brush. Every club has their fair share of idiots.

I refrain from wearing my Toon top (or at least, having it visible) if I go to away matches or to bars where there might be a lot of the opposition's fans. There's a lot of mindless idiots out there and sometimes it's just not worth the hassle!

I can believe it. I always cover up my shirt when out of the ground as it's not worth the bother and I often travel alone.

I know it shouldnt be that way but I would put a coat on over my top at an away game, not worth the hassle at all.

I went to Maine Road in the 80s and the local constabulary treated us away fans like animals. In contrast Goodison park was much better with both sets of fans mingling after the game, though I did here of a stabbing that day. Lost both games 1-0, the everton game being the one where PB missed a penalty and Lineker scored for them.

I will always remember Man U fans as being instrumental in the growth of football hooliganism in the 70s. When they were relegated to Division Two they caused trouble at virtually every ground they visited. Old Trafford was the only ground my mate refused to go to when we used to go to away games. It seems not a lot has changed.

Me and my mate were chillaxing in Shearer's before the Tottenham game, him decked out in his Spurs shirt and scarf, and all he got was a few jokey comments about them getting stuffed. All in good humour and we stayed for a drink with the lads we'd been chatting with.

In contrast, on the trip to Wolves no pubs were allowing away fans in. I know there's turds in every group of fans (ours obv. included), but Newcastle is generally a very friendly place for fans of other clubs to visit.

After being caught up in the Heysel mess I never wear anything to any match; I just can't.

And, yet, some fans are simply great. Who can forget the Plymouth fans from the other season? That is what football should be about; I will never forget the commentators saying that there's both sets of fans on the pitch and they started to sound worried until they realised what was going on. A damp eye moment, that was.

And I will never forget the time that I once, in London, took a wrong turn and ended up in a pub chocked full of Gooners. This chap came up to me; he was about eighteen foot wide, shaven headed and full of tattoos, looked me up and down and said, "Son, who do you support?"
I replied, "Who the hell do you think? I've gone grey years before my time."
"Ah, Newcastle, then." He moved closed, leant over and said, "You deserve a pint. What you 'aving?"

Plymouth fans were top notch like. Pity their club is in such a state like, couldn't have happened to a better group of fans and I hope they turn it around <ok> There are canny fans from all over the place it's just some clubs seem to have more of their fair share of numpties, I can't really imagine (as much as i love it) starting a fight over a football game.

Well this guy is talking about someone threatening to cause bodily harm to him in a pretty insignificant match, from a neutrals point of view anyway.

You posted a video of typical derby day banter, quite a difference.

    This. But also this:

Unfortunately, as Utd attract more fans (especially the plastics who are only there for the glory and can't take the rough with the smooth) we also have a larger number of ****s. But I still think (hope) they are firmly in the minority. I can only assume you had the run ins you did cos the ****s were seeking out the Toon fans whilst the decent fans were just heading home in peace.
