From anyone. So when as a much younger man my car broke down in Wales and I was told that the local garage wouldn't do anything to help me as I was English, wasn't that racism?
Glad to hear you will be pulling racists up on their anti Jewish sentiments. Maybe tell some of those pro Hamas lot.
As it was the British Empire you had better include Scotland and Wales. No persecuting from France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Holland in your world then?
As people are mentioning Muslims why not tell them that? Not that it matters since you gave up moderating in a fit of pique. Not to mention all the accusations of racism you let pass without comment. BTW, whilst Muslims are not a race, Jews are.
The following poem is to be read in the voice of John Cooper Clarke. It's called "Censorship" I'm fed up of all this censorship why can't people shoot from the lip and tell it as it is? It's time for us to get a grip. You can't say this, you can't say that you can't call her a useless tw@t you can't call him a thieving git even if the description fits. Be careful what you say today you can't go calling someone gay you can't go calling someone straight even if you know you're right. if you're black you can't say white what a load of bleeding ****e don't go saying he's a beefcake you might upset the poor snowflake. here come the word police saying, "Stop, desist and cease - don't say words that might offend us!" Heaven help us, Lord defend us from imbeciles like these!
I'm not, but I may change that and demand to be. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I'll regret weighing in on this, but feel like I need to say it nonetheless - If anyone considers something to be 'punching down' then they're inherently speaking from a standpoint where they're considering themselves 'above' or superior to those they think they're defending, by default and by definition. I think a lot of people do this subconsciously and don't realise it. When people use lines like that I immediately conclude they're playing 'righteous top trumps' for their own benefit as opposed to actually giving a **** about the group, sub group or individual(s) legitimately. If we follow this on, what's 'punching up' exactly? Notice above that nowhere have I said derogatory comments like that are OK, or in good taste, before anyone tries to tar me with the same brush that's being waved about this evening.
You know I’d never thought of it like that and it’s interesting point. I think history does play a major factor as others have stated. Typically the oppressed vs the oppressor. I think if people make derogatory remarks like this it calls back to the stated person wanting that to remain. I’d like to think I don’t consider myself superior to anyone personally but I do get your point subconsciously it may kick in for whatever reason. I’ve always thought a good punching up example is similar to what’s done on various topic shows like Mock the week or HIGNFY. Mocking the ruling class for decisions they make in the public eye. But it does become a cover all for people mocking public figures for the respective faults
I don’t think I said either were or weren’t a race. And to be honest I don’t want to engage in that conversation given I feel like arguing with you is going to be like chess against a pigeon. I could make every correct move and you’re going to walk across the board. **** all over it and coo like you’ve won. have a good evening
