Sounds like that is supposition on your part. Surely his ability to work with the CEO is the most important one, as that is who he reports to. The DOF would be anticipated to be a more long term appointment than a Manager, as they tend to come and go based on results, so it would be silly to put too much emphasis on whether the current Manager can work with him.

You said it your self he was consulted on which one he would prefer to work with. I don’t mind that btw. A manager and a DoF need to have the same views and opinions. To work in the right direction. Why would him having the final say be an issue anyways?
