VoetballKrant claim we're looking at Royal Antwerp striker George Ilenikhena - and with Antwerp needing to balance the books, he's an obvious asset to cash in on - not least because the rest of their squad includes Vincent Janssen and Ritchie De Laet - and a fee of €20m has been floated around Obviously a raw player, but certainly a viable bench option - especially as Quique Sanchez Flores is badmouthing Alejo Veliz for slacking in training, which Ange will surely not tolerate
He's 17. Might be worth a punt and a loan back, but certainly not the answer to any of our questions.
Alex Crook is talking about a potential move to re-sign KWP. I’ve spoken of (re-)signing him for a while now. Think it makes a lot of sense, better than Emerson, can probably play LB better than Davies in Ange’s system and then the added bonus of being HG/ CG. We’d probably have to convince him a little about a return as his reason for leaving was lack of game time and we’d be looking to bring him in as competition for Porro and Udogie but there should be plenty enough minutes available to him throughout the season to keep him satisfied, I’m sure earning a few extra pennies than what he gets at Southampton will be of interest too. Tottenham fan as well I believe.
May depend on how Southampton do in the play-offs. He might prefer to stay and run down his contract or even sign a new one if they go up.
Their fans seem to think he’s likely going whether they come up or not so I think a new deal would be unlikely. Might depend on if there’s interest elsewhere and what they can offer.
Was thinking about this today. Good scenario for us if we want KWP is for Leeds to go up (so they sign Rodon permanently, though there’s been rumours that’s happening regardless) and Southampton to stay in the Championship so we have a better chance of poaching KWP. I’ve heard some pundits say he’s been excellent for them in possession and has developed into a player who can deal with left or right back, but that there might still be questionable off the ball.
I don't think we'll be able to suggest that Brandon Austin is worth £5m as part of the negotiations, mind...
He could be a really interesting player if he keeps progressing and we persist with the inverted FBs. He’s played CM and RB which is kind of an ideal profile if we were looking to develop a player long term.
In theory agree with what you’ve said, albeit I think he’s definitely more a DM than a RB long term, though looking at how this season has gone along with previous seasons under other managers, I’ve pretty much lost all faith that he’ll have the chance to become that player here, likewise Donley and co. Can’t help but feel that in 2-3 years time this current golden generation of our academy will have all left. A real, real shame too, because I genuinely believe there’s one or two potential superstars in the ranks for club and country, amongst others who can have some future as a first team member of the squad.
Yeah I’d certainly like to see the likes of Santiago, Donley and the others get more opportunities next year if they’re not on loan. It seems like we’ll have some sort of European football so hopefully the number of games will be there to support it.
I said it a few days back but I’ve got a bad feeling Santiago will look to leave in the summer and I wouldn’t even be hugely surprised if Donley did too. Santiago’s been overlooked way too much this season when you consider the poor form of our wide players throughout most of it. Whereas Donley’s only got to look at the likes of Miley (pre-injury), Mainoo, Hinshelwood, Lewis and a bunch of others who’ve all got between decent and lots of game time this season and think to himself why isn’t he? He’s as good, if not better than some yet is constantly overlooked barring a very sporadic 4 minute or so cameo. It’s looking very bleak for both Dorrington and Phillips too. Dragusin’s barely kicked a ball since joining in January and every media report implies that a CB is high on the list for the summer so there won’t even be a 4th choice spot open to either by the looks of things.
AC Milan linked with Emerson. Oh no… they’re going to finally replace Cafu… please… oh no… don’t go, Emerson.
Ange’s comments today suggest he definitely sees Skippy as part of his future plans, hopefully we can actually give him some more game time next year with Europe and not getting knocked straight out of both cups.
Jack ****-Brook claim the summer shopping list is a CF, winger, nonspecific midfielder and backup RB So expect KWP stories to flow...
Isn't Calabria, their homegrown captain, the current right-back? They also have Florenzi, who has played quite often for them this season.
Need to go strong in Europe, can’t be using it as a way to blood youngsters if the club is serious about winning a trophy.
