The more I think about it, Bernard’s playing style as a centre-back is strikingly similar to how Hamburg’s centre-backs played in those matches I watched. Receiving the ball on the half-turn from the keeper and just driving forward into space was something Bernard did really well. If he doesn’t sign a new contract at Wednesday, he would be a really solid signing.
When it's worked it's worked well. 50k for Slater. Tetteh - free, sold for 1.5m Oscar, free. 14 goals, 2x 500k loan fees and a 3m sale option. Ozan, 4m. 18 goals a couple of assists and here another year at least. Seri - free Longman - 750k should get our money back. Omur, 2.5m, you're having a laugh right? We even got 2/3rds back on Ali. Woods and Sinik really are the only ones were significantly out of pocket.
I do wonder how much of Hamburg Acun has actually seen. To make such a massive decision, I'd really hope he's seen an awful lot. I genuinely don't think Tetteh was a good signing, we got lucky that we sold him for a profit but he was a high earner by all accounts and he was injured for most the season. Even Ozan, yes it's worked out great but he's one of the club's highest earners and it took him a year to get fit. That's not smart and it's more like a broken clock is right twice a day rather than good judgement.
I think we're playing down some of our players a bit, as we often do. Coyle and Jones aren't trendy players, but they're miles more adept at playing through a press than people are making out. Slater is another, though not being talked about here. They've all become really good in this team at playing out through little one-twos, Coyle in particular. Don't think these guys would have any issue now playing a high-risk strategy like this German guy supposedly plays. It doesn't sound that dissimilar to what they've been doing anyway.
I’d piss myself laughing if he’s watched less than what me and several others have in a day i.e. two or three 90 minute games from earlier this season
But championship teams press and keep shape far far better than those So we might have to slow the game down to create space... Wait Its almost like we were close to building that level with our last manager
I like Jones and think he's a good ball playing CB, not sure he's quick enough to play the way Walter would want though. Coyle proved me wrong this year, but I still don't think he's good enough for a promotion chasing team though.
I'd be quietly confident that you've watched more than him. With the demands on his time, he can't have that much spare time. If I'm brutally honest, with his comments yesterday, especially about the recruitment side and how he wants to manage us, I don't think any proven or established manager would go near us. Why would Cooper risk his reputation coming to us? When he can't recruit the players he wants as the owner who's watched the Championship for the last couple of years thinks he can do a better job I don't think it's a coincidence that we've never been able to get a proven manager. Why would you go for this guy over Rohl or Cooper? When you're putting in the money, why wouldn't you give yourself the best chance of success
I think ultimately Rosie was a man constantly learning on the job Its hard and takes time to find the balance Especially as a new manager where every decision made is scrurintised and you have to answer for If i say on here Do this or play him Theres no consequences to it Liam came in when we were in freefall and first set us to stop conceding which he did We had recruitment in delap who was seen as a bit of a joke after 2 failed championship loans And rosie took a risk on connolly again as a free signing We were playoffs until january Delap was gone for 4 months Connolly had a mental/injury and was gone for rest of the season Liam himself said many times he didnt get it right But we were on the right track But building a footballing philosophy takes time I still think its a massive shame for what could have been
Thats exactly why cooper and rohl wouldnt come here in my opinion Its not a good look at all acun going on sky and talksport the day after sacking a manager Its circus And we are seen as a bit of a joke in this country at the proffesional level Rosie was someone who was very respected in the game
I don't think we've got a realistic chance of getting somebody like Cooper Much more likely to be somebody who has never managed in the Championship which is basically rolling the dice
I've listed the others who we've lost money on. Who else have we spunked cash and lost out big on? And acknowledging both sides and balancing an opinion that we should have kept Rosie is in no way one sided.
But even when we hired Rosie it was weird. It took us like 2 months, we were in absolute **** and Corberan/Carvalhal were available yet we picked an inexperienced gaffer. Regardless of what Baz will write, I think we've really struggled to attract
They thought they had Pedro. Had to start from scratch after that cos they'd told the other candidates they weren't wanted and some had gone elsewhere. Timing of Shotas dismissal was ****ing abysmal though.
