Very disappointing result yesterday, but it's time to dust ourselves down and look ahead to the game at St Mary's on Tuesday night. Southampton themselves lost yesterday but have won all their home matches so far this season and from what i've seen of them on the FLS look full worth for their current league position. On paper this looks our toughest game so far this season, but we all know that city thrive on these type of games and seeing us pull out a result against the odds wouldn't be suprising. Hopefully yesterday's last minute loss won't be too damaging to the confidence of the team. Heart says 1-1, head says 2-0 to Southampton unfortunately.
1-1 we ended forests run last year, and i remember years ago, hartlepool where on a similar run in the lower leagues, until city and john eyre rolled into town, so if you call twice in the last 12 yearsa habit, then we have a good habit of ending runs
I am absolutely confident that, as we did following the losses at Leicester and Cardiff, we will bounce back with an emphatic win. 4-1 to Saints.
Heart says 1-1, head says 3-1 to Saints. Just think that this match comes to soon after the Burnley match.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Saints don't have an amazing squad on paper, which explains why no one expected how well they've started. However, their manager and players will have got it in their heads that they are as good as anyone in the league and gone into every game with that attitude. The likes of P'Boro who have come up to this division and been immediately relegated have that element of fear and respect for other teams. But Saints will have the same attitude as Norwich last year, which is "We are too big too have been in League 1 in the first place, so we're already as good as you lot." The point is they respect no one and fear no one. It's the best way to go in this division, set your stall out and defend like a Watford or Coventry and you get nowhere. Get straight into the opposition and attack like Saints and Norwich and the opposition will be ****-scared. As such, the best thing for us to do is go there and treat it like any other game, attack them, scare them, show them how good our players are. If we go there all scared they will love it and hammer us. Look at the Derby game, they just crapped their pants once we got into our rhythm and their confidence went completely. We need to do the same thing in this game, but if we concede an early goal we're ****ed, so it's a tricky one. With NP in charge I'd be confident of a 1-0, but as we have no idea how Barmby will manage these kind of games, I have nothing to go on.
Think it will be a safe 3-1 win for Saints, however if we start slowly and Hull get a early goal, then yesterday's result could quickly start going around in people's mind - both our players and fans. Without a shadow of a doubt though, if we score first then I'll completely expect us to take the 3 points.
Good post, as I've said above, psychology will play a big part in this game and the first goal will be massive.
Saints to win 2-0! We've done well in the past when having to come back from a loss. Think we beat Watford 4-0 after a loss..!
I think a more important game for us saints might be boro v hammers! Any idea how that will go? Unbeaten home form vs best away form in the championship is pretty tasty
I think we're a bit better than Watford though Do you get a lot of teams coming to your place and parking the bus? I'd imagine that's what most **** teams in this league would do (they do for us) but we definitely won't so it might be an interesting match.
Nicks approach will be interesting especially with Mckenna getting a 5th yellow yesterday so I assume will be missing, although I'm not sure when the one game ban kicks in? NB didn't seem sure either in his radio interview with Burnsey. As others have said I hope we can take a point but its a funny league and long runs bring their own pressure and have to end sometime. Head says Saints win 2-1. When I bought my ticket yesterday the office told me we've sold 350. Considering the distance on a Tuesday night not bad in tough times and a month before Xmas.
Could drop to 2nd on Tuesday. Don't do second..so going for 1.0 or 2.1 to Saints and hope for draw between West Ham and Boro.
You guys are pretty good away from home aren't you? Will be a tough game and as others have said, it's all about the first goal.
yeah we are better away from home then at home really, only lost 3 of the last 22/23 i think, cant remember the exact stat.... i understand why saints fans are confident being top and with your home record, but with the predictions of 3 and 4 coming through, i was beginning to wonder if there was a touch of understimation going on... it could all blew up in my face of course and you could stick 3 or 4 past us, but i think a few will be surprised by the hull city that turn up and give you a run for your money (hopefully)
