In the interview couple of things came across for me. He said over and over again he made the change because he wants to see the team play exciting attacking football and indicated the game against Ipswich is how he wants the team to play. He also said the the change is a win win for both the club and Liam. Liam had never managed a club before he took him on, now LIam has the experience coaching a team that finished 7th in the Championship and lots of cluibs will want him. City will benefit because they wiil get a coach that will play the attacking football that he and the fans want. He never said that he knows more about football than the fans, he said that he/we know more about whats going on at the club which is not the same thing and of course he knows more than we do about whats going on at the club. On a side note he did say that he would not like fans protesting about his decision to change the manager/coach. Personally dont see that happening but like many on here I am not sure its the right decision.
If the football we played against Ipswich is what he wants doesn't that suggest Rosenior is capable of it?
Apparently not. Well, not more consistently anyways. My guess is that it could well come down to these talks the players raised. Right after those talks we became a much better attacking force (bar the Plymouth game). If those talks did happen (which I'm inclined to believe they did based on what a few on here have said), then it stands to reason that it shouldn't have got that far in order to get better from the team - ie; the coach seemingly being the resistant factor to playing that way. That would be my take from that, personally.
After a sleep or two I'm still gutted but believe that's now to do with Liam as a person than the decision itself. We've got (had) a really good squad and the last 13 games cost us and our home form has been dire. I would've liked to give Liam another year to improve and show some more attacking intent but I also understand if Acun believes that's not how Liam will ever play, or if he will it'll be begrudgingly, then I suppose best to part ways sooner rather than later after spending more millions. What does surprise me is that it appears there's not a manager lined up. I know there may be options and a shortlist, but I would have hoped Acun would have gotten a few verbal indications of willingness. That being said I'm not a fly on the wall so he may well have and is just going through the official interview process (edit: original grammatically a mess)
Just listened to Acun interview on RH, and can see why he felt a change was needed. He certainly seems to be pointing to the fact that Giles was brought in an attacking LB and never really used to his strengths, Padur was bought and even relegated off the bench, which clearly didn't go down well. Also, bring in Carvalho, Omur, Zaroury he expected a much more attacking style which never really materialised. Liam went for the pragmatic approach and nearly got us there, but Acun mentality is taking a risk and go for it. I guess that's where the 2 philosophies differed. It will be interesting to see what happens next season, if Liam gets another gig in the Championship, who will finish above whom???
I have heard a lot on here and from ‘pundits’ who have seen City from afar, saying we should have gone up with the squad we had after January. That ‘squad’ was massively imbalanced. We had huge gaps, which I think ultimately cost us. I have never heard of a squad try to get through with just three central defenders, especially when it turns out that the manager doesn’t have any faith in the third, so when Greaves gets suspended at Easter, we play square pegs in round holes which costs us vs TWS. A few days earlier, we lose at home to Stoke, is it coincidence that Greaves didn’t play when he is such an important part of the building from the back? It seems the budget was already tied up when we had to take a risk with two low cost forwards, which (apart from Ohio’s late cameo) which didn’t work out to the point he’d rather play with none. We had no cover on the wings, yet had an abundance of very talented no 10 types…. Traore only played a few minutes after the African Nations. Promotion is a marathon and reliant on squad depth. We didn’t have it. For me, that smacks of a fan and not a football person making most of the decisions. From what has come out since LR’s departure around who signs the players, it is very clear that the recruitment team were not in sync, and has led to this imbalanced squad. I guess it was therefore inevitable that LR had to go. Whoever we get in, this has to be addressed.
He didn’t say he knew more than the fans he said (about fans): You don’t know what is good for the club…we know more details than the fans for being inside the club” I understand what he’s saying: we don’t work for city and we won’t see a lot of what happens behind the scenes and the hard work that goes on. I think that’s just down to English being his second language, hopefully. There was just a vibe of I’m the leader and no one should question me and everyone should support my decision making as I’m the one and only person who should be doing that at my club which made me feel uncomfortable. The win/win analogy felt a bit of a stretch. If my employer told me they were letting me go, but not to worry as it frees me up for a better job, I’d wonder what was the hell was wrong with them. There was also some gaslighting Liam and his achievements with the suggestion Liam should be grateful Acun even gave him a job in the first place. Some of that is common manipulation and control language, unfortunately.
I’ll take that as a compliment, so thanks. I would hope that Acun meant it as ‘I know it may seem like a rash decision and a lot of supporters are upset and shocked that we have sacked Rosenior but please trust us’, rather than ‘don’t tell me how to run my club, I know better than you’ in Allamesque fashion. People are right to be wary of Acun though. I’m not suggesting he’s like Allam but he’s still a football club owner at the end of the day, and I wouldn’t trust football club owners as far as I could throw them. They’re like politicians. Even the ones you agree with when they talk a good game regarding policies and campaign promises, always have doubt that they’re just talking ****e to win your vote.
I think it's good that Acun fronted up yesterday and explained his position, I still don't agree with the decision, but it is what it is. It was a clear from the first transfer window under his ownership, that he was playing real life Football Manager, I think there's little doubt now that it's just his way and he's going to carry on playing real life Football Manager. It's a risky strategy, the new manager's going to be under massive pressure from game one and anything less than top six finish next season will be regarded as a failure. There's a handful of posters on this thread who are pushing the narrative that the football this season was absolutely terrible, frequently using words like 'dire' and 'dismal', which I think is nonsense. Some of the football was obviously poor, the Stoke game was appalling, but there were plenty of games where we played fantastic football (as good as we've ever played). There were clearly games we lost that we shouldn't have lost, there were even more games we drew that we definitely should have won, but I saw real progress in that regard for the latter part of the season and I'm disappointed that we won't get so see further progress next season. Fact is, what's done is done and whether we agree with it or not, it's not changing, so we'll just have to pray we get someone in who knows what they're doing.
There's also a handful of posters who think that anyone who didn't like Rosie ball are dinosaurs, and not in touch with the modern game. A stadium that was so often near to full capacity but with such a low key atmosphere for most parts of the game wasn't a good advert for his style of play. There were often more groans than cheers due to the constant passing back from the half way line back to a defender and then back to Allsop. Playing out from the back doesn't deliver boring football. Rosie's version of it did. I can't find the statistic myself but even Acun quoted the fact that we were number 1 in the championship for most time keeping possession in our own defensive third of the pitch.
https://x.com/bvbnewsblog/status/1788175423706185773?s=46 If Terzić signs a new contract at Dortmund, I wonder if Şahin would want a head coach gig for next season or stay as Terzić’s assistant. Şahin’s contract as assistant coach at Dortmund is only until 2025.
Worry for us if it is Walter based solely on what I’ve read. Picture this Rosie gets the SWFC gig after we nab their manager and they go up! You know it would happen?
I genuinely would have no worry whatsoever Rosie would ever get anyone else up as he wouldn’t have the toys he get given here, nor the patience either.
After listening to the Humberside interview, does anyone think Rosie did know this was coming. Acun mentioned speaking to him but then backtracked a little, it may have just been lost in translation a little. Acun mentioned pandur, I remember wondering a few times towards the end of the season “why has pandur been bombed from the bench” did Rosie do this because he knew he was going ?
