i can see that but i think going on humberside and/or releasing a statement is par for the course i personally just think its a bit crass going on the media circus of talksport and sky thats my opinion, and im not that extreme, theres many many things i think acuns done well this is one i dont
I think Acun has set himself and the new coach up for a fall. What if a new attacking approach leads to us competing in mid table? What if we are exciting but ineffective? Most of us would say play-offs would have be the target for next season. With a whole new style of play we could end up anywhere. If it doesn’t work will he accept a change in style of play to get results? He’s backed himself and a new manager into a corner. I pray for him it does work as I like the guy and what he’s done for our club.
The Rosie sentiment is absolutely crazy, it’s really not that big a deal the owner wasn’t satisfied and wants to get a better manager in, when he was appointed it raised a lot of eyebrows, if it wasn’t LR and was say Mowbray no one would bat an eyelid. I was never confident he could take us to the next level and was proven right after the dismal performances that followed an incredible effort from Acun/Tan in the window. If the next chapter blows up in his face then this is all warranted but if he brings in a top gaffer and we see improvements I’m hoping people realise how ****ing silly they have been and get behind the man who saved our club.
I don’t have any problem with the manager having little say in the squad. That’s how Brentford and Brighton have slowly set themselves up. It makes sense to have a plan and scouts to work on it. But aside from OKing financial deals, I’m reticent for club owners to have a say in which players we should be signing. I’m not sure that’s exactly what Acun is saying, as he does say ‘my team’, but I’d rather the footballing advice was coming from people who know more about the game.
Maybe not everyone agrees with you brady. Yesterday we knew very little, today thanks to his interviews we at least know the reasons for whats happened. Each to their own of course but I like the transparency since Acun bought the club. We had too long of the Allams saying very little and keeping us in the dark, other than Ehab doing his annual smug git interview which just pissed me off even more. Sometimes you cant win. If Acun stayed quiet he'd be slated, if he responds to requests for an interview some still slate him.
There's 2 main arguments developing here. and either could prove to be broadly correct. Truth is that without a crystal ball we don't know if it's the correct decision or not. On the one hand we could be in a position where the new guy fails and Simon Jordan is right that Liam gets to the prem before City and on the other hand it could prove to be a masterstroke akin to the Barmby/Bruce or Adkins/Poch scenarios. Ultimately how the decision is judged will come down to the success or failure of the new appointment. That will be the deciding factor.
People have posted their opinions, I posted mine, it’s what a forum’s for. I’ve no idea what you think is hypocritical about it.
Ok fair enough. I guess Acun was in a bit of a situation where the media are driving a narrative that stands to hurt the club and what it's tried to build over the last couple of years, and I think he didn't have too many options and was the smart thing to do. Perhaps not the most sensitive though if you're putting yourself in LRs shoes.
I don’t really understand what is so controversial about people saying ‘I’m not sure sacking a manager who has taken us from 21st to 7th in less than 2 seasons’ And before anyone starts I also don’t think it’s controversial for people to say ‘he should have done better with the signings in January’ But I do think we should be cautious about praising an owner for being a saviour before we see how things pan out. We’ve been there before.
That’s a fair argument and I wasn’t really on about people on here but in the general hull city sphere, for the large part this forum is mostly pretty good to discuss on with good opinions to bounce between. Twitter and Facebook is an absolute emotional war zone
So, I suppose if you going to change manager now is the time to do it. Plenty of time to choose the next, get together to choose transfer ins and outs, a pre season all together, all before the new season starts. Only downside with the interview was that he got a bit allamesque at the end, my club, my money my way.
Regardless of how you felt about Rosie and how you feel about Acun’s comments today, I find the whole ‘he’s the owner and he can do what he wants’ rhetoric coming from many on here today very uncomfortable considering our recent history. I like Acun, and I’m not saying he’ll become a villain, but Assem was also very likeable and considered a saviour when he came in, so I’m very hesitant to fully trust any owner.
Bizarrely high proportion of Belgian beers in bars in Costa Adeje…which is a good thing. (Even a Belgian restaurant on the front)
Appreciate that. I just get frustrated when people say things like ‘it’s only cos his nana was from Hull that people are annoyed’ The fact is, there has been progress. Whether that’s been quick enough for you is the point to debate.
Another thing that adds to '2012 Barmby sacking retrospective', the suitably authentic Patty impersonator that is spamming the forum again. Perhaps a good omen the next appointment will have a Bruce-esque level of success too.
