To be honest, I have never explored Eastleigh, but I am sure someone here will be able to make a more helpful suggestion than either I or Bill is able to provide. Buena Suerte in your endeavours and if it is an aggregate win, the occasion will be more than enjoyable.

    We’ll smash em! 1-3

Dilemma, does Martin stick with the 3 CB formation which brought us one success against Leeds? Or revert to the one which gave us a 25 game unbeaten run but has been **** recently?

    I don’t know.

Thanks Richie, both K.O. times corrected, I should have used the BBC footy site.

Stick to the side that played against Leeds. The other side had long been found out.

You could try the Grantham Arms or the Chamberlayne, both are quite close to Eastleigh centre and have a bit more character than those on the high street.

That being said I haven't been in either pub for about 20 years... But if I were in Eastleigh, those would be the places I'd try first.

The last time I was in that pub was in 1974. It was the first time l ever went into a pub without my parents. l was approaching 15 years old and l went in with a school friend and tried to sound manly by asking for a pint of brown ale. Amazingly they served me but l can honestly say l had never tasted anything so disgusting! We ended up playing darts with two known thugs (who were two years older than us) who, two years later, went to prison for armed robbery. Thankfully, we lost the darts match. That is the sum total of my first underage drinking experience.

The Steam Town over the bridge from the station heading to Bishopstoke.. Top class ale brewed on the the premises. Well priced food. Only problem might be the live music rather than Saints as entertainment..

That's where my mate said he'd take me for some decent ales, but I'm sure we'll find somewhere that's showing the match too. It's a rare night out for me so I will probably sample from several establishments. Thanks for the tip

Sounds like you started your pub drinking career around the same time as me. If iirc, a pint of Whitbread Tankard in the Avenue pub in Bevois Valley was 20p. Bar snacks were available in the form of questionable looking cheese rolls from a plastic display tray, or pickled eggs from a jar behind the bar. There was a dartboard above a table which generally had people sitting at it, so you didn’t want your dart to miss the board or bounce out into someone’s drink.

That’s just brought back a memory of playing darts in Cowes. Probably summer of 69, when with a group of friends who were chucking darts in the Kingston Arms. No level of skill at all, but one of the group took their turn and managed to bounce a dart off the wire. Didn’t land in anyone’s drink, but ended up in my upper arm. No paramedic called, no apology from ‘mate’, no concern from anyone. Landlord chucked us out for pissing about. The youth of today can’t make their own amusement.
