But we don’t have a coach yet - give Acun chance. he only sacked the coach yesterday haven’t kicked a ball - it's the close season and according to many on here, need to recruit at least 12 players - before sacking Rosenior that was the same scenario What would be a disaster would be to give Rosenior more time and then sack him late in the year when it's not easy getting manager's or players
Many said the same when LR was brought on - He's only here because of his connections, to appease the fans, no experience, etc etc etc I don't really get that thread. LR got a new contract in Dec and things started to turn sour between the two the following month? Unless Acun has suddenly turned into Mystic Meg, how was he meant to anticipate that? We don't know why LR got that new contract, he was doing well, but logically waiting to the end of the season would have made the most sense. Unless there were outside factors at play, were another team sniffing around at the time?
You’re not answering the question though. Regardless of how people felt about his style, Rosie guided us to 7th, which involves winning games. Whoever is hired over the summer has yet to prove they can do anything with us. How in that position do you reassure players you’re a winning team?
The point being how do we recruit players and show them that we win a lot of games playing attractive football during the off-season when famously there isn't much football being played.
Acun was saying that if Rosie did well he would be rewarded. Acun backed Rosie but he required him to be successful. If Rosie had managed the club well and had only just failed Acun might have kept him but not after so many bad performances Rosie produced boring ineffective football and had to go.
People keep going on about him 'having' to go because he failed to get us to the play offs but keep ignoring comparisons to Carrick and Robins. Corberan and Wagner missed the play offs last season but have seemingly improved again this season with further backing and patience from their owners. In the latter's case, their own fans wanted Wagner out for most of the season.
We didnt win enough games once Acun had backed him with players "Whoever is hired over the summer has yet to prove they can do anything with us. How in that position do you reassure players you’re a winning team?" Might be better than showing we cant win many games. You seem to be trying to argue that managers should never be sacked.
Oh, did that award them a place in the play offs? Must have missed that. So what you're saying is if they had finished the season in similar form to us they would have been even further behind us but put on a burst of wins when it no longer mattered? Suggesting that Boro have retained Carrick because of his form over 13 games and we've sacked Rosenior for a lack of form over 13 games is madness.
I have a good feeling about all of this. It’s going to be third time lucky for Acun. I’ve been at work so I’m slowly catching up with this thread, however I’ve read about a third of the pages and I have to agree that I’d much rather support Acun than - as much as I like the bloke - Rosie. I work every Saturday so I haven’t been exposed to the torture of retaining possession in our own half for the majority of the season, whilst curbing the natural attacking threat of what definitely was a top six front line. I’ve consider myself fortunate to have missed the vast majority of the Stoke like home defeats, whilst Acun has pushed the boat out to max out our home attendances, only to end in severe frustration. When I first heard that Rosie had gone my first thought was the Plymouth result, and the thought that if he couldn’t manage to get the team to win what could have been a season defining result then that probably pushed Acun over the edge. Let’s face it he’s pumped millions into the club only to be disappointed on multiple occasions this season. Yes I’ll always like Rosie but my total support must go to Acun, as if the money was mine then I think that I’d have done exactly what Acun did.
I’m not saying that at all, but certain managers need time to prove what they can do. You said that you would attract players by showing you play attractive, match winning football, but you can’t do that over the summer because you don’t play games. That’s something that will have to happen during the regular season, meaning any new, unproven manager is probably going to need to take the players at their disposal – without many new signings – and turn them into a winning team to attract new players, likely next summer. What happens if that manager misses out on the playoffs next season? The only way you get around that is to hire a manager that is universally considered a winner, with a lot of clout before they even step foot in the building. I’d be pleasantly surprised if we did that.
Such an attractive manager that players like carvalho had to go above him to tan etc because he wasn't listening to them or willing to even entertain letting them play a certain way that would make us ( as proved after tan stepped in ) a better team.... LR going might make it easier to attract players, we just don't know yet.
The 1904 podcast is an interesting watch.. Baz makes a few bold claims. He says the relationship between Acun and Liam hasn't been the same since January. Then goes on to say the decision to bring in Pandur but then play Allsop every game despite his run of bad form didn't go down well.
Head over heart decision for me. Will always have an affinity to LR, but Acun pumped a lot of money into the squad this season and LR failed to get a consistent tune out of them. It's a results based game and we were utterly crap in too many games this season. We didn't miss out on the top 6 because of the squad we have, nor did we miss out on the final day of the season, but because LR couldn't get the squad, consistently, firing on all cylinders throughout the season.
Aye, useless ****er didn't get them promoted in September, despite a win rate of over 58%, it's a wonder he lasted so long.
