Something I never knew - we had some heroes in our ranks... https://www.facebook.com/share/p/5FYU77sFA37quZWG/
We really did have Arsenals number ! No wonder they didn’t like us . https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...tford-completing-first-arsenal-league-double/
On 30 March 1899, paddle streamer Stella was wrecked with the loss of 105 lives when she struck rocks at the Casquets while running at full speed on route to Guernsey. Captain Reeks had been in a foolhardy race to overtake another ship in dense fog, costing the lives of many innocent souls. At 7am the following day, the Watford football team were travelling to the Channel Islands aboard the Vera, when two lifeboats were spotted. 67 of the 112 survivors were picked up by the Vera and were rescued and cared for by the Watford players. A letter from one of the survivors was printed in the following week's Watford Observer: Sir, Will you, through the columns of your journal, permit me to publicly convey my best thanks on behalf of my fellow survivors to the members of the Watford Football Club who one and all ministered so splendidly to the needs of the most physically distressed of the rescued passengers from the wrecked steamship “Stella” who had been taken on board the “Vera”, on which a team of the Watford club was travelling to Guernsey and Jersey. The footballers left their berths and placed the shipwrecked and exhausted passengers in them, and during the intervals between their own sea-sickness, rubbed the limbs and generally strove to revive the sufferers, with happy results. The self-sacrifice will never be forgotten, and I rejoice to hear testimony to this illustration of the fact that athletes develop not only muscle, but heart and character, and in fact that constitutes true manliness. As one of the survivors of that terrible catastrophe I feel it is due to them that this public expression of praise should be tendered, and we who witnessed their kindness and nobleness on that occasion, along with those who were the actual recipients would say: The Watford Footballers – God bless them. W.P. Harwood Another passenger of the doomed steamer, 14 year old Bening Arnold, survived by tying his brother's football to his waist before being picked up from the water.
Thank you BB A very surreal moment earlier Markthehorn appearing to reply your post posted the big match game between the Arse and the Glorious Hornets which we won 4 - 2 and I thought well they are our heroes but not national heroes, having double checked I know realise it was your previous post Makes you proud to be a Horn
Certainly would have added some bite to the midfield back then . When not suspended! https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...ones-sir-elton-tried-everything-sign-watford/
I feel cheated - no sign of me on the pitch or in the Pond... https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...fords-historic-first-promotion-division-two/?
A short story about our final match of the 2009/10 season at Coventry - there's a couple of names in our squad that I don't recognise. Hopefully we can repeat the scoreline this weekend .. https://www.ccfpa.co.uk/?p=114832
The commentators were getting a bit excited for Watford Shame Marlon Kings off field antics were so bad and he missed half the season through injury, Ashley Young was sold halfway tho the season and Mathew Spring disappeared Marlon King and Ashley Young for the whole season could/would have kept us up and sent down Wet Spam
I thought it was for sexual assault? After he got out, he moved to Africa. Probably should have waited - the government would pay for him to go there now.
Well he would say that, wouldn't he - but he's right... https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/troy-deeney-watford-goal-championship-32763195
Both. The stolen car was at Gillingham before his came here. And the sexual assault afterwards at Wigan. A troubled man I guess. Shame as you say because he was a decent player.
