It just goes to show you don't know what goes on in peoples heads. It would appear that Gary Speed had everything to live for but obviously something has tipped him over the edge.

Gary Speed was a terrific footballer and a lovely man, he was just starting to do great things at Wales, football and society in general has suffered a huge loss today, Rest in Peace Gary, you will never be forgotten

If he did suffer from depression, I hope he tried to get help. I'm shocked.

Its horrible news. He was a true gentleman of the game.

I just hate the fact something like this has to happen to get people talking about mental illness. Hopefully though more people will get help.

Such a sad day for sport

Came back from football this morning to this news. Was utter shocking. Could not believe it. At 42 you should not be dying. But like you all say depression is horrible

Its quite amazing that everything pales into insignificant with this kind news.

I have always had a lot of respect and admiration for the bloke and he was a top professional and by all accounts a top bloke as well.

I've not heard the story or rumour about his depression but I lost a close and dear friend 8 years ago to this terrible disease and there isn't a day goes by I dont miss him or think about him.

My thoughts go out to his poor kids and his wife and parents. They will be devastated.
