It’s going to take me at least a week to get any kind of a sense of reality. All season we’ve known it was possible. We were supposed to get overtaken by Leeds in our tough run of fixtures in December. And then Leeds went on a ridiculous run and we matched them. Just over a week ago this was looking very unlikely but Leeds fell apart and Town never did. There was a carnival atmosphere before the game. After 10 minutes of the game it was obvious that there would be no final twist to the season. I found myself disappointed not to be getting a third and a fourth (no thanks to the awful officiating) and I realised the contrast with the expectations of rubbish in years gone by. The last half hour was scrappy. Then the scenes that followed were on another plane. First, Walton gets a cameo. The good natured celebrations with these players. Running through the medals in squad number order and acknowledging every one of them. Three or four hours of radio Suffolk coverage on the way home. What it means to Kayden Jackson. Watching clips and seeing all sorts of angles and interviews we didn’t get in person. What a season. We need have no fear next season. This group will work their socks off again and wherever we finish in the Premier League it will be a joy and another experience to back this manager and these boys again against the best in the country.
Brilliant piece of writing and a great match report. Definitely captures the atmosphere and achievement around the club.
Very glad many of you got to see the glorious end game of this amazing season. Sensational celebrations! Like others I am not going to get drawn into who stays, who will leave. I am sure that the squad will give a very good account of themselves. Lets all enjoy the break, and they have all earned a terrific holiday, and I dont mean Southwold, charming tho that is!
For anyone that didn't see it last year, I came across this today whilst bouncing around Youtube soaking up all the promotion party videos and post match analysis. A great watch and insight on McKenna's journey
As i stood watching the celebrations at P R on Saturday from the SBR Upper, i found myself thinking about all the years of travelling in the depths of winter to the backside of the country somewhere and the usually depressing long drive home and thought this moment is what its all been about, i must admit i got a bit dewy eyed but then told myself its just the hayfever.
I think we are all taking it in, exhausted by the long run in, the emotions, excitement, expectations and joy, and now need a break from it all! In our local park, men in white trousers are thwacking a red ball around shouting catch!
I had the strangest dream - dreamt that we got back to back automatic promotions and are now in the premier league. Now, where’s my medication?? On a serious note, off to the parade tomorrow, not normally my sort of thing but my nephew wants to go so suppose I’ll tag along
It's taking a long time to sink in.I haven't watched much Premiership football for years. I was at my brother in law's this pm and the Liverpool/Spurs game was on and I'm probably deluding myself, but I really didn't see anything that scared me too much.
I don’t think we’ll be competing with Man City and Arsenal for the title but I think we’ll win more than we lose against the bottom half of the league and finish in the top half. I think after the last two years where there were such tight margins we will enjoy the freedom of being able to lose matches against strong opponents. I’ve no doubt in mind that there will be games where we get absolutely battered and games where we take points off the big six.
Been in the back end of nowhere moving my daughter, the joys of putting together beds, wardrobes etc. Missing the best day of the season as I had the chance to actually be with all 5 of my granddaughters at the same time. Back in civilisation now ! Hopefully Spanish was magnanimous to other supporters!
Football score lines you can never influence and we’re a funny bunch how we sometimes allow them to affect us. Win lose or draw, you’re waking up to the same day ahead. Family time is much more precious, at least you’ve tagged the day she moved with the day promotion was confirmed. Grandkids also grow up very quickly We recently moved to a very rural place and lifestyle, wished we’d done it sooner. Three months in and I’m still decorating and putting things together
Yup, just couldn't resist a little dig, after all the comments about little old Ipswich, with no squad depth etc. As it happens, there's 1 or 2 I actually quite like on there, like ristac but there's so many more arrogant gobshites than gooduns!!
