I was at home, here in Norfolk, pacing up and down, swigging cold beer. When Deano's volley went in, I got tears in my eyes, then went out with my dog and sang my head off in the woods. By UnaBomber
I was at Wembers in what really was preposterous heat and although it'll go down as one of my life highlights and I'd never swap it for the world, part of me does wish I could also have been in a pub in Hull to enjoy the local celebrations. Oh to be two places at once. By Bum_Chinned_Crab
I'll never forget! We didn't have tickets for Wembley so we decided we wanted to travel up to Hull to watch the game in the pub so we could be around other City fans in the same boat.
The same day as the final, Beverley races had a race-day and had plastered all over the website that they were catering for City fans and they had laid on a special lounge to watch the game with big screen TV's etc etc.
We got to the races at about 2.15pm and after grabbing a drink and watching a race we made our way round to the 'special' lounge to be greated with 4 14inch box style tv's mounted on a shelf, with a reception so bad that they couldnt have the sound on because of the crackilng and the picture was so fussy you couldnt really see what was going on!!
I think there must have been about 150 of us crammed into that room with the same feeling of bewilderment at our choice of venue but needless to say we managed to watch the game, the whole place went mad when deano scored the winner and I won £170 on the nags.
Obviously not the same as being there, but the whole day was an experience I will never forget! By Boothferry_Legend
If it helps, I was dancing on the tables in all the bars in Camden Market on the 23rd and we hadn't even done anything yet. Top weekend.
Me and my mate stayed with a City fan in London and went out in Camden Market the night before. That was the plan although i got wasted on the train down and was kicked out alot of places around Camden that night, which is nowt usual up here anyway. We stopped in one and and a good sing song with a group of City fans. Everyone stopped and looked at us, but eventually came over and said good luck to us.
The day itself. We went to Wembley on the tube, which was full of both sets of fans, all mingling, making a racket and bouncing up down. Didn't half make a din. Then we met the rest of our group just down from the tube station steps and basked in the sun, taking photos of the arch and the wembley way. The match itself was nail bitting stuff. As Canada said, i couldn't believe we kept them out. I thought they'd scored the effort they had when Turner blocked it on the line and was mightly relieved when Myhill went up and caught the cross at the end. The goal was a peach and was his destiny and it was fantastic to see Ash, Myhill, Dawson (France later) make history & go up through all division with us. I remember bouncing around the train on the way back to the centre of London from Wembley
The joy of winning led to another night of boozing. The way back, as i said, was long and boring and i was hungover, but the Leeds v Donny result made up for it. Top weekend.
Best memories: Deanos goal, the celebrations of the players and the fans at the end, the bird with the t-shirt that said "my bristols are bigger than yours". By Golaccio!
I was torn between going to Wembley or not. Half of me said it could be one of the best days of my life, but after all the build-up and anticipation the other part of me said it could be an absolute nightmare.
In the end I chickened out and watched it at a pub in Nottingham and I've been kicking myself ever since. By Craig in Nottingham
Stayed at Premier Inn Watford. Sat with my lad and his mate near the top of the stand/side which had the Tigers supporters end to our left. Loved the walk from the station to Wembley, getting in the pubs as we walked, and the Banter with Bristol lads/lasses.
That day still pops up in dreams for no particular reason, other than it must have had a massive effect on me.
Also enjoyed getting to the KC early to Q for the tickets, sitting with a coffee flask, sarnies on a fishing chair, and chatting to other people I knew or didn't know.
The whole team and Pearson/Brownie gave us that day at Wembley and I will always owe it to them all. It made all the bad days at BP well worth it. By Don’t sack brownie
I was at Wemberlee. Can't for the life of me remember where I stayed. One of my mates had helpfully printed out a tube map - shame he only had a black and white printer so you couldn't tell which line was which. Left the hotel and was looking for the nearest train/tube station, so another mate decided to ask a bloke for directions. He didn't notice that the bloke he asked had sunglasses on and was holding a white stick.
After the match we ended up in a lap dancing bar in Soho. I was shocked that the dancers didn't know that we'd just won the play-off final.
Great day, great day By andy payton’s mullet
I was sat on the sofa watching it having had a knee op 2 days prior. I did however get extremely drunk By andyoffshoretiger
At the game, went ****ing nuts then got battered. Had all my family staying with me in London so we had a proper celebration! By Jimmy Graham’s bald head
Was at Wembley. Stayed with my mate at his gaff in White City on the Friday and soaked up the atmosphere on the Saturday before one of the best days of my life transformed before my eyes.
Many a shandy in Covent Garden which was full of rather complimentary Leeds fans and flew back to Amsterdam Sunday after watching the Donny Leeds play off final. By Haarlem Tiger
Had just got back off an overseas det so was too late to get a ticket so watched it at home on Sky, got slightly pissed, and removed all the skin from my knees when I slid, quite impressively, across the carpet while wearing shorts. The wife was not impressed. By Madhog
Was at Wembley on that great day. Everything about the day will live long in the memory. Getting up at 6-30 in the morning for a minibus taking about 15 of us down to London. Stopping at the services on the M1 to be greeted by hundreds of city fans and making lots of noise in the service stations and really getting the party started. The walk up Wembley way then into the famous ground itself with all the excitement building inside of me. Then there was the match. Jubiliation when Deano scored, hearts in mouths at times in the second half but we held out for the win and i've never known such relief and sheer happiness at the end of a football match. Not ashamed to say there were tears of happiness after the game, a game I never expected to see City play in when I first went to Boothferry Park in 1999. The trip back up North was just one big party, and had a few beers that night to celebrate. Woke up the next morning and thought i'd dreamt the bloody thing, until I picked up the Sunday papers and the grin wasn't wiped off my face for a good few days! By Manuel
Sat opposite the away dug out at Wembley. (well it would be the away dug out if it was at KC, I sat in almost the same position as my season ticket despite it being a different ground)
Best memory outside of the game was getting off the train and seeing thousands of City fans, thats when it kicked in how amazing we are. Still the highest attendance for a playoff final isn't it? By James
Travelled down in a limo, memory very blurred due to numerous bottles of champagne being drunk! There were none left for the journey back home so we had to raid the local Tesco near Wembley and purchased about 20 bottles of Cava! By westhulltiger
I was at wembley in the Bristol city end! Apart from the obvious goal, my favourite memory of the day was the tube station full of singing Hull fans and the platform/train announcer welcoming the Hull fans to the capital. By Tigerned
I couldn't go due to work commitments, all my family was there apart from me, this thread makes me very sad but I did manage to watch the game live and will never forget it! By Nick HCAFC
I was in Vancouver - got up at about 7.00 am to watch it on a pretty good internet stream. The rest of my family were at Wembley and keeping me updated with frequent text messages. I'd have loved to be there with them but, after years watching City usually fall just short of real success, would have probably jinxed them so maybe a blessing in disguise. Great day though nonetheless. By glidingtiger
About to take Kids to Eurodisney so forced to be at home with game on tv at high volume. Blubbed at the end and still find it difficult to choke back the emotion everytime I watch Deano's volley fly in and then the final whistle..............i'm going to blub again now just writing about it! By goldentruetiger
