100 -110 million ..City are keen apparently and so are your mates Arsenal. If he goes it'll suck balls, but life goes on and we'll have plenty coin. He's just bought a new house up here like last week or something, but I guess that's irrelevant when you're making a million a month somewhere.
One of the best in that role in the PL? I must be missing something with Maddison because he’s never been one of the best. Like I said, he went missing when Lesta really needed him and there’s a legitimate reason he can’t get regular games for England, there is plenty better than him.
I don't think Chelsea outplayed us. The Arsenal game was weird in that we were better in the first half but conceded 3 silly goals, then they were better in the second half but conceded 2 silly goals. Today from the 10th to the 70th minute, Liverpool simply toyed with us. It was painful to watch. We were the better team in the last 20mins but Liverpool could've still scored another 3.
Agreed but let's eat a slice of humble pie here. Newcastle to Spurs isn't much of a step up, if at all. Not a chance he'll move here. It was once upon a time, but we very wisely used that opportunity to sign Moussa Sissoko.
I think by any measure he’s shown himself to be one of the best in the attacking midfield/number 10 role. The stats certainly back him up, if nothing else
Good points. I also never understood that labelling of Eriksen. He obviously never went crunching into tackles but the guy never stopped running, always tracking back to help the defence. In fact I think more than once he racked up the top average distance covered across a season. I don't think Maddison comes close to Eriksen in both ability and work rate, but maybe it just isn't fair to compare him to the Dane.
The stats are out there. He is well placed in every stat imaginable apart from aerial duels. He was the focal point for Leicester which meant that his numbers were greater but overall his ability to make telling contributions in the final third puts him in the top bracket. I’m not sure why you’ve such a downer on him. He’s a great signing for the money. He’s had an injury and not been as effective since returning, but the team’s performance has dropped off generally in this period. He provides that link between midfield and attack which was so obviously lacking last season. He gets picked for England because of his performances. But he doesn’t get picked as a number 10 and playing a a wide player in a 4-2-3-1 is not his forte.
Eriksen was one of the most disrespected quality players we had, if not the most disrespected. I found it crazy how often I had to defend him on here for absolutely stupid reasons. If it wasn’t his lack of grit or tackling ability it was that he didn’t have a personality… it was bonkers. Forget the fact that for a good spell he was “out creating” the likes of de Bruyne, Ozil, the Silva’s, Coutinho etc, the fact he - a creative number ten - couldn’t tackle like a defensive mid was a major issue for some . Maddison doesn’t come close to him because Eriksen was as close to world class as possible without likely being considered world class (arguments could be made to say he actually was though) whilst Maddison is simply just a very decent player. The standard of that prime 16/17 team in general though will likely overshadow many players we have and will have, that XI didn’t have a single weakness, it was only let down by a lack of quality depth. I try my best to not compare players with them too harshly but I do have a standard in my head of what I expect of a Spurs player and I’d say Maddison is more than good enough to be one but I think he’s playing through injury and that’s just resulting in some very mediocre performances, same applies to Bentancur. I hope that come next season, both players will be injury free, had a good pre-season and will hit 24/25 running.
Waddle Gascogne Ginola Les wow @Captainpancakes goldfish bowl club has been a proper feeder club for us
In fairness the first two were taking big steps up in their career progression, while the latter two were on the downward path in theirs (noted that their downward paths were better than the upward paths of most players) .
