He joined at 28, so at his peak basically. He's not as bad as Woodgate, Dyer etc in terms of injuries, but we still can't rely on him to be fit all season and injuries are inevitable with him. He delivers when he's fit, he's just out too much. Thus I worry about him being a regular starter, and intermittent starts for him and appearances from the bench are needed to keep him from injuries. Isak, on the other hand, has stayed injury free and is coping fine with being a regular starter.
As in he's starting to stay injury free. The injuries he has had previously have been serious ones, not the pulling a hamstring or "picking up a knock" ****e.
His record is far better than Wilson's, and he's been regularly fit and starting recently, whereas initially he looked far more fragile.
What I meant was he's staying injury free recently and has had a good long run as a starter, which is a very good sign for the future. I know it's an internet board, but let's not drill into semantics this heavily. Isak's fitness and injury record looks much improved recently, and he looks more capable of staying for than Wilson.
I think he’s fine as an alternative to Isak and with him. But I noticed something I didn’t like about him yesterday and that was when Isak was about to take the pen. Wilson wanted it. He is selfish. I guess that’s in a striker dna. But something tells me Wilson doesn’t like Isak.
Your own opinion is that we should play Isak and Wilson together ( one those rare occasions when both are fit) more often, isn't it? If we were to go that route, then we would need another very good striker option, regardless of Callum's injury history, or we have no backup. It's one of the priority positions for strengthening in my opinion. Hopefully there's something in the continuous Sesko rumours.
Defence is the issue not the fwd areas ... I'm not saying I wouldn't want another striker I'm highlighting things in terms of priority in accordance with the issues regarding PSR. Barnes isn't looking great mind so I'd probably look at a fwd can play right and left before the striker positions depending on how well Barnes does next season.
Yeah, they need to sort that first, thanks to the Botman and Lascelles injuries. Hopefully one or both of the two freebies join. Though that will still eat at the sumer budget, it would hopefully still leave room to manoeuver in regards strengthening RW and striker... Though rumours are picking up that we've made an offer for a new GK - Giorgi Mamardashvili.
What you said was very different though and It's all irrelevant anyway because the conversation was about positions. We've got two very good strikers and replacing Wilson will cost a huge amount. If you replace a striker and still have to play krafth lacelles and schar for another year I think that would be a mistake. I think fans just get more excited about signing forwards at this point... surely you'd like to sort out the defence ? The numbers are brilliant at the other end.
Cool it's definitely a key area for improvement... Pope is good at making saves and collecting the ball in the air, but he can't kick the ball well at all. If Newcastle improve the gk and cb positions this summer then there will be a dramatic step forward. The rw and striker positions would cost 50 to 100 million a piece and can be done in the coming years.... Minteh could resolve the rw issue temporarily or even for a decade.
The point is that Isak is showing signs of being consistently fit, whereas Wilson doesn't show those signs at all. We'll be signing an additional striker in the summer, regardless of whether Wilson stays or not.
That wasn't the point you made though. You said isak has stayed injury free and has only had serious injuries, so I corrected you. Then you've started an entirely different point saying he's showed signs of staying fit. Anyone can show signs of being fit, but the history is more telling. The original point I raised was priorities anyway though. Its just not as important as the issues with conceding goals...Newcastle have outscored Liverpool this season.
