Beginning of the season, I predicted between playoffs and halfway, so for me we’ve slightly over achieved. I got carried away with the January transfer window activity and thought if things go our way, we had a chance of playoffs. We were an horrendous ref decision at Norwich in the last kick of the game from achieving that. Seriously though, I think it was squad depth that ultimately cost us. No one to blame, it takes of years of steady progress to do that. Acun wants it done quicker. Regarding Liam, this was his second season in management ffs. Overall, he has done an outstanding job. Some believe with the assets at his disposal, we should have won everything in front of us, but it’s not Premier League Manager. He has made mistakes, (as has Acun), but hopefully will learn from these. We have made considerable progress, which Acun is apparently content with. I said continuously that next season should be the one to target. It’s going to be tough. Apart from the odd surprise, we can be fairly certain it’ll be between the three relegated clubs plus the three that don’t go up in this season’s playoffs. Plus us and then Coventry. I can’t see any runaways or any of those not been there? Possibly The Blunts who have ownership issues? It is going to be another rebuild, so squad depth will again be an issue. Maybe Jacobs progress has shown a pathway for Ashbee jnr, Smith, Jones as ‘fill ins’? Anyway for me, it’s just great to be enjoying football again. I’ve pretty much stopped watching it on tv unless it’s City away games. Some of the football this season has been a joy. Other games have been frustrating, but they say with young players it takes a while to find that consistency, probably also true of managers.
Rosie - You talc too much - bed-rock 'n' roll in the E♭ major scale ! Now that might be a bit hard on the lad perhaps? Bad timing ?
Too early to predict who's going to be in the run for promotion next season. I'd say Boro and even Wednesday could be up there, but you never know. Anyone can do well in this league. Ipswich have proven that this year.
Bed wetting is absolutely embarrassing we will be absolutely fine there’s nothing to suggest we are going to go backwards. We’ve drastically increased the value of the club from KLP now to Jaden/Greaves, we are in a great position. Get rid of the deadwood, and yet another big summer awaits us. In terms of Rosie, I’ve been highly highly critical of the man and he’s proven me wrong, I’d only swap him for Cooper realistically and if that won’t be happening you have to stick by your man, these last few weeks we played with flair and attacking freedom, all we’ve been asking for with the quality at our disposal, only worry for me is that yet again every time the pressure mounts again it’s a revert to type soul sucking typical city performance, my leeds mate can’t believe we’ve not made the play offs with our squad and he has zero bias what so ever so it does need thinking about. Can’t wait for more Omur/Tufan next year, the pair of them together all season with the right players around them I think we will be seeing top 4, especially if the former plays 10 and finds some end product in the middle. Great season can’t wait for next UTT.
So you say it’s too early to predict and then add two more! I don’t agree it’s too early. Barring the odd surprise, I think it is fairly predictable (and sadly mainly based on parachute payments). If you had asked me who would most likely to be in the top six this season I’d have picked all the top 9, except Ipswich. There will always be the odd surprise, but same teams will be challenging for next season (add Boro to the list, who I forgot). There’s another group of teams who will be middle, but are likely to flirt with top or bottom at some stage. Looking through the final finishing positions, are there many massive shocks?
But beyond Philo, Carviliio, Delap, etc he will not have a clue of the depth of our squad, which for me is what cost us.
With a fully fit squad and before Connolly went awol depth seemed okay, now it certainly needs addressing. A lack of physicality in midfield for me needs addressing by Rosie. A lot of goals have come through our lack of presence in the middle of the park.
Enjoyed the season, seen some great games but frustrated at others. It’s a case now of who we lose and who we bring in. One thing I think we have to improve on is corners and free kicks, very rarely have we scored from them. Scoring a dozen goals a season from them is a big advantage straight away.
No bedwetting, panicking, whatever. Easy cliches to throw, easier than putting a coherent argument back. It's just realism from me. Looking at our squad, assuming Greaves and Philogene go, we are left with the following. Assume we keep Philogene even if you like: Quality at 'serious promotion push' level: Omur Tufan Seri (assuming he's got another season at that level in him - he'll be 33 in July) Jones (arguably) Decent squad / utility players: Slater Coyle Pandur is a young kid we know nothing about. Huge assumption to believe he's the one. Then we're left with players like S McC, Jacob, Allsop. I expect the rest will go if deals can be sorted, and if they stay we would hope not to be relying on them either as starters or from the bench, just as fillers in a 26 man squad. I don't see the younger ones being at a level to step in - players like Smith, Jarvis, Jones simply aren't going to make it for the level Acun aspires to. You can't argue with the above, it is FACT. That's not a "foundation" or a "bedrock". It's a shambles. It's an absolutely massive rebuild ... again. It's like 15 players to bring in, of which something like 10 (maybe more) need to be at the level of those first 4. We haven't got any strikers, none!! https://www.wearehullcity.co.uk/teams This will be Roseniors FOURTH transfer window, yet he'll be starting from a base that is absolutely miles off. I'm not putting all the blame at his door either. Rather than throw lazy insults, explain to me why I'm wrong (not panicking, not bedwetting, etc). I see the task this summer as absolutely huge, and if it's not done early, which it rarely if ever is, then we're once again playing catch up with near to a 1/3 of the season gone before we know where we are.
Can't understand yesterday if ? Omur was carrying a injury we should have started wirh Omur and Tufan together as they have created a great understanding and combination, as it was Tuffan played the first half then was taken off and Omur came on.
Yeah, agree with the midfielder (don’t tell Kalman). There were some gaping holes in the squad, some which they couldn’t have predicted. Connolly and Christie come to mind. To try to get through the second half of the season with just three was optimistic. Then when one is suspended, we realise he doesn’t rate the third choice, so disrupts the whole defence. In hindsight, those zero points at Easter when Greaves was suspended could have made the difference…. And it was Slaters **** up att RB (with Coyle at CB) which cost us at TWS.
