Really pleased for Ipswich, good to see someone different promoted and not just the relegated 3 going back up... As for Birmingham ... 6th when they sacked John Eustace, appointed Rooney and finished up getting relegated
And Eustace, thanks to Blackburn's win at Leicester, got to play a part in their relegation. Justice.
Obviously Birmingham are relegated the season Portsmouth return to the championship. The universe hates me. I may as well put a fiver on West brom to win the playoffs
Adam finishes 2nd top goalscorer. Che finishes joint 6th. Out of everyone who made it into double-figures, Che finished with the 4th best minutes-per-goal ratio (beaten by Vardy, Sargent and Latte). Adam was 8th.
How did Ipswich/Leeds/Leicesters players stack up? For all the complaints about us missing loads of chances having the 2nd and 6th highest scorer as our 2 main strikers feels pretty good.
In terms of goals scored (min 10 goals): Leicester - Vardy 5th, Dewsbury-Hall joint 18th, Mavididi joint 18th Leeds - Summervile joint 3rd, James joint 11th, Piroe joint 11th, Ipswich - Chaplin joint 11th, Broadhead joint 11th, Hutchinson joint 27th In terms of minutes-per-goals (min 10 goals): Leicester - Vardy 1st, Mavididi 29th, Dewsbury-Hall 30th Leeds - Summerville 10th, James 12th, Piroe 18th Ipswich - Broadhead 7th, Hutchinson 19th, Chaplin 26th
So yeah as I suspected we stack up pretty well with the other teams, although I don’t know if we had 3 players in double figures? Martins inability to organise a defence clearly is the main reason we failed to get autos
I read a stat that Adarma missed the most big chances in the Championship (28) the next highest was (18).
Oh yeah we definitely missed a lot of chances, but I’m sure the other teams did as well. Ultimately we scored the third highest in total when all said and done (87 compared to Ipswich’s 92, Leicesters 89 and Leeds 81) So 1.9 a game for us. Compare defences we conceded 63 compared to Leicester 41, Leeds 43 and Ipswich 57. The difference in goals scored is 5 to the highest scorers, defensively it’s 22. I think it’s safe to say defence was to blame over missing chances
I see that Rowe got 30-odd minutes off the bench for Norwich today. That's his fourth substitute appearance since his bad injury, which might mean that he will able to play a much bigger part in the play-offs for them. He was excellent early season, until his injury. Norwich suffered badly during the period when they were without him and Sargent.
Oh, I'd put far more than £5 on West Brom winning. That way it's a win-win: you either get lots of money, or two Pompey v Saints games next season. Actually, there's a flaw in my logic - you get lots of money, AND two Pompey v Saints games.
Yeah that's shocking. As well as Adarma has done this season bagging 20+, you can't go missing more big chances than putting them away. If he was our no.9 then I'd say it simply isn't good enough. However, seeing as he plays as a winger most of the time, the fact that he has so many chances is impressive. So yeah, as a LW, love him. But as a striker, no thanks. (Think Leeds' Rutter is in second place)
I mean, Premier League I get. It's more the stories like 'Girona qualify for Champion's League', and 'Kane scores but Bayern lose', that baffle me. And of course women's football; they push it so hard, but at the expense of the Championship, which is an absolute gem of a league. Great achievement by Girona by the way, don't get me wrong.
The two go hand in hand. If you don't put away your chances, then all the while it stays at 0-0 or 1-0, the other team will grow in confidence, and eventually they will score a goal. If you put the game to bed with a second goal or third, then I doubt the opposition will pose the same threat.
You've noticed it's just you and me when everyone else is sleeping? Haha I'm in the Philippines! But possibly moving back to England soon
