No idea mate, ill check later on if i get a chance.

The rankings is never full proof as its based on data - i use the rankings a lot to narrow down potential targets when im scouting for certain positions.

Then i watch their highlights to see if i like the look of them before writing reports

I know. That's the point. The eye test is always the one. I reckon he won't be top 20. And eye test makes him look a bit **** now. I feel sorry for Ballard sometimes.

Everyones eye test is different tho

Thats what i love about scouting, everyone will see something different when watching the game

Remember a scout at Ajax telling me that no1 can tell you your opinion is wrong, its all about how you articulate your opinion in your reports

Doesn't really matter what they use, the contention was that Wyscout ranked him in the top 10. For what it's worth, I thought O'Nien was **** today and I think we need an upgrade. Doesn't change the fact that he wasn't wrong to say he was ranked in the top 10 by Wyscout.

Agree but I wouldn't trust a scout that told me 09 was a centre back for a promotion chasing team.

Doubt you would recommend that statement either ?

Tell you what lads and lasses. ONien has been the least of our problems this season. I doubt anybody thinks he is the next Beckenbauer, but defensive record is not why we have fallen off a cliff. Unless we sort out players who can make decisions in the final 3rd, and a coach who will demand more and lead better, ONien will continue to be the least of our problems.

Not as a 1st choice CB no, i would have him as 3rd choice CB as i feel he can still contributed in certain games

Scouting depends on the game you happen to watch, ive watched games this season where hes really impressed me at CB - but then others i see him making basic positional mistakes that i cant believe a championship cb makes.

Suppose thats why some will never rate him as a CB and some like him

He isn't a problem but for me isnt a dominant performer. The jovial things he is doing , doesn't help us.

If we are going top 6 next year we need a stronger performer.

    Sound. Third choice for me.

Captain is an issue. Ballard or Neil needs it.

Completely agree O’Nien shouldn’t be a starter for a team looking at promotion. But as @FellTop says he’s far from the problem.

Id like to see us bring in an experienced 28/29 year old to go in there alongside Ballard

Sorry I couldn't meet up mate, I was in the Museum but I'm not good company at the moment ...

... I'll make a point of it next season, thanks for the offer.

That is the truth of it. Scouts need to have a good eye for a player. I have come across some that I dont think do, but the reality is they are looking for different things and we all see it differently. Then how you articulate what you think is key. Stats are a guide to player types, but I think having an eye for a player is the most critical thing for a scout. It is no easy task.

In youth football I reckon I can tell a player within 10 minutes, every time. I need to see them on the ball 2 or 3 times. Up to the age of 14. In mens football it takes maybe 45 mins for me to put him on a shortlist or not because what they do off the ball is as important as on it. I am no scout though, tried it and hated doing it. But as a coach I reckon I know who is match ready and who isnt after a short time on the training ground.

Not sure he talks enough for me. Of all our players Neil is the leader of the pack in my eyes. Leads by performance and demands on the pitch.

Course it matters what they use. Another football data analysis site could use different metrics and come up with a totally different top 10. Just like you could come up with a top 10 and so could I, based on what we think. It’s factual that he is in the bottom 15th percentile on both clearances and the bottom 30th for aerial duals, 3 key metrics for a CB surely? So he must have some mental data for some other metric to be propelled so far up into the top 10.

When analysed against forwards, Jobe Bellingham is in the 99th percentile for Tackles, interceptions, blocks and clearances so he must be in the top 3 forwards in the league.

Yep having an eye for a player can be a talent, its also just understanding the game and the team you are scouting for - communication from the chief scout etc is key for this

I used to make my opinion on a player far too quickly but have learned over time to make the judgement after the game and never make a decision on that player from previous games - just judge them on the game you watch

Patterson away? Surely he would be mad to go and sit on the bench at Liverpool?

Clearances isnt a big stat used by most though. Its natural that a cb for rotherham would have more clearances than a cb for leicester because rotherham will have more attacks against than Leicester would - doesnt mean they are better

Pretty harsh to rubbish one scouting/data analysis tool but then use stats picked up on another site to back up your argument
