Sunderland host Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. Last time out Sunderland lost at Watford and Wednesday beat West Brom. The Black Cats dropped to 15th place with 56 points after another defeat at Watford. The Black cats failed to convert their chances but Watford youngster Ryan Andrews coolly slotted past keeper Anthony Patterson. Mike Dodds should have the same squad of players available for his final game of the season. However, Neil, Embleton, Rusyn, Seelt and Huggins are all unavailable. Sheffield Wednesday had a much needed 3-0 home win against promotion chasing WBA, their third win in five, and Danny Rohl's side are 20th in the table, three points above Birmingham who are at home to Norwich. Mike Dodds: "I'm really upset. I'm not upset in terms of the performance - I felt we looked a lot more threatening in the top area of the pitch - but we've got to take our chances. "I thought we were the better team. I'm upset for the fans. That's a game we should not be losing. "I'm disappointed with the goal. They breached our back line far too easily and this group must realise that one lapse in concentration can get punished. "It feels like I'm running an uphill battle at the moment in terms of the inconsistency. Some weeks I look at the group and really like what I see and some weeks I don't. "Today I can't criticise them for that. To come away losing 1-0 is upsetting for everyone at the club." Danny Rohl: "My team was outstanding and I'm very proud of them today. "We fought for every inch to defend our box; we were 3-0 up and we wanted a clean sheet. "It is not easy against such an opponent - they are really strong and they have good possession. We were really able to do it this for 100 minutes, defend as a team. We deserved to win. "We need one more win and we're still not safe. Focus and concentration for one more week and then we can really celebrate. This is what I demand from my team. We beat a top six team today; I'm proud. I love my team and we have invested everything we have. Today we should enjoy the moment, but we go again next game." I’ve never liked Wednesday and I’d love us to relegate them especially with the ‘mighty’ Barry Bannan in the team. I’m going for a 2-0 home win to give the supporters something to look forward to next season. For all those attending, do your bit, sing your hearts out and give all the young lads a good final day lap and show any future manager what supporting the lads is all about. I normally think lots if changes are a bad idea. However I would like to see a couple of different things here. Would like to see Watson play and Clarke sit out. Would like to see Rigg in a deeper role dictating things like Neil does and Ekwah dropped. Would like to see Mundle start through the middle in a false 9 alongside Adil as a 10. I would like to Pembele again, and Bainbridge maybe get some minutes. All that said we will be called all sorts by those wanting Sheff Wed to win. I would settle for Watson in and Bainbridge getting a cheeky debut. Thanks RTB, another hell of a season on your part. We are lucky to have you set these threads up for us.
Honestly have no idea how this will play out. I expect Sheff Wed to be nervy, especially their fans as results elsewhere pretty much dictate how their day will go. Want to see as many kids as possible playing. Watson, Kelly and Bainbridge in particular. 2-2 Watson and Hemir to score. Great work this season @RTB.
Fully expecting a comfortable loss and not sure if I’m not right in the head but i actually can’t wait for Saturday, pre match pints in the sun (hopefully) result doesn’t really matter so no pre match nerves, hope we see Clarke put in one last big shift for us and a chance to see some of our futures stars given a chance all before the excitement of a big summer starts, hawaaaaaaay *probably be on here whinging at 3pm when we’ve got tonked and played 5 at the back like
Dodds will play 5-5-0 again then will be "really angry" that we didn't win despite "dominating the game" with 51% possession and 3 shots on target
I can see Sheff Wed wanting it more than us in this one. Still would never bet against us though, just on principle.
I shan't be betting, but I'm convinced we will lose. Gutless, directionless and desperately in need of a reset
Thanks for all your hard work doing the match day threads all season RTB. Sterling effort! I would like to see Bainbridge and Watson play some part in the last game of the season, in front of a sold out crowd at The Stadium of Light. I'm hopeful that the lads will want to end the season on a high after a disappointing campaign, so I'm going for a 1-0 home win. HTL
Cheers for these threads RTB, top work for the season. I don't normally predict us to get beat but I think we will on Sat. Our form is terrible and they still have something to fight for. I'll stay until the end and clap them at the end either way and hope the new gaffer is announced ASAP. Turn the page on this season and i look forward to a busy summer and better times next season. 1-2.
And Relax RTB, just as the lads seemed to have done two months ago, would be nice to finish with a win, Wednesday will be on edge and we have to take advantage, HTL.
Cheers, RTB Someone suggested a round of applause in the fifth minute of this game for Charlie, and I'm all for it . . . . let's spread the word
