I think we'll have money to spend on players, I just hope, should we get promoted, that the contracts are done right. Relegation clauses should be in there to protect us should the worst happen. With clauses in the contract, that should mean players will be at least trying to stay in the division. When you've got a bunch of well paid players with no ding to their wages included, do they all put in the same effort? You get relegated, probably sold back to a PL team to get your wages off the books and you're still laughing all the way to the bank. That's the danger I see potentially.
Good points SD and forward looking. I am sure our management team, CEO et al are already planning ahead. We just need a point, pref all 3 tonight! I suspect all us fans are way more anxious than the team! At least they get to kick a ball!
Looks like the Huddersfield game is on Sky too now. I was seriously thinking about getting up at 4am to watch it live but I guess I'll have to catch the replay a few hours later and join in the (hopeful) celebrations when I can!
Must admit I'm feeling nervous as hell about tonight. Had half a mind to start the Matchday thread for Saturday as a distraction and to wind up our Iberian chum! That way if it goes tits up it would all be my fault, apparently
Me too! Tonight is all or nothing. It’s a sliding doors moment. The kind of moment where if you hit the post Marcus Evans ends up taking over your club. No pressure, lads.
Not saying it would be the same for you guys, but last years signings for us refused to sign with a relegation pay drop clause. Instead they agreed with some bizarre loan release clause. When we got promoted, I remember a Hull fan telling us what it was like, we’d been out too long and the dream is far better than reality, I thought sour grapes and all that, however he was virtually spot on. Man City have a youth scouting system that’s out of this world. To find an upcoming youth player is like a needle in a haystack. What’s left get snapped up by Chelsea, Liverpool and the others. £20m buys you nothing, £50m players want £80k or more a week. You’re trying to buy these players and you’re competing with tier 2 of the PL the Spurs, West Ham and Villas. If you pip us enjoy the close season, enjoy season one but stay open minded that the PL really is ruined and 20 years out is a long long time
I'm also very nervous! Coventry are massively out of form, fatigued, got injury/suspension issues, and have nothing but pride to play for - but it's still a potential banana skin of a game. I think a slight saving grace is this isn't their last home game of the season, so it won't be a send off for their players. A win would massively reduce the pressure for us on Saturday and all but secure automatic promotion. A draw would still keep us in the driving seat on Saturday - a game I'd back us to win at home. A loss would be a massive blow, which I don't think we'd recover from. It's been said a fair bit over the last several years - but this is arguably our most important game of the last decade, let alone the season! Come on Town!
Understandibly we are all nervous at this most exciting stage of our journey. I am off for a long walk, do some gardening, walk the dog, walk the Missus, whatever but actually I have great faith in Kieran McK, Morsy as our inspiring leader and the amazing team spirit to see us over the line. Yes, I will take a draw, but feel quietly confident we will win this.
I think I got about five hours sleep last night (steady on there Spanish!) and have got next to no work done over the last couple of days ... but I am quietly confident. As you say, we've got a top manager, great team spirit, and some big first team players coming back. The only thing giving me pause for thought is our form in the last few games.
Yes, no, maybe , no, yes, no ! same as everyone else the stress is unbelievable, especially when the wife who thinks it,s all a bit silly keeps telling me to stop worrying !!!
I think our performance in the last game was back up to par, hence my quiet confidence. If we do get an early goal we can relax a bit and enjoy the game. Only 4 hrs to kill!
Also quietly confident we can win tonight. But expecting it to be another anxious night. Hopefully we're all smiling at 10.
Smiling?!! We will go batshit crazy if we do manage to win! And barrels of beer laid out and bottles of Rioja cracked open!
