Pretty much as I've posted, KLD has taken ownership of this season and is acting quickly and decisively. I'm expecting early inroads on transfers as well
What always amazes me is why does the player not see that themselves, surely he must wonder why am I always getting loaned out, unless he is a typical thick footballer?
“it’s beyond me” says Mike. Correct. Time to move on and ‘step away from the vehicle’. Gonna be difficult to switch back into player development, but needs must.
A good day out despite the weather and the result. Good to meet up with a few old friends and meet some new ones. I met a lads fan from Brighton on the train, no real connection to Sunderland apart from his dad, loved watching us rather than his local team. I got talking to a group of Watford fans from Hemel Hempstead a good bunch, they seemed to have a connection with Sunderland as their football team manager got a job lot of red and white Sunderland kit on the cheap and they loved playing in those shirts. They were asking about local lad Luke O'Nien and had nothing but praise for him. I even got a free pint of Guinness at the Estcourt Tavern after my steak sandwich was delayed As to the game itself I thought we controlled most of the game and had the better chances but failed to convert them, In the first half I was jumping up and down thinking that Chris Rigg had scored as the net seemed to ripple from the view I had . Trai Hume then had a great chance but the Goalie was lucky with the deflection. It just wasn't our day and was summed up with 2 or 3 Jack Clarke efforts which pre-injury he would have put away. Their breakaway goal came out of nothing and a good finish which maybe Patto could have done better to stop. We had a great chance to equalise when Clarke broke away, played in Hemir, he crossed it to Roberts in the penalty area who then fell over, if he had just left it we had Styles and Clarke waiting to tap it in behind him. I'm glad I made to the game, a great atmosphere, excellent travelling support as usual who applauded the team off at the end. A great tribute by Watford FC for The King, on the big screen for the 88th minute:
The thing is, if it isn’t the one people want, fans kick up a stink. the other thing is, if we bring someone in, and they lose pre season games, suddenly they’re judged. I’ve seen some awful pre season results turn into a decent season, and, the other way around! Just hope the fan base give the manager a chance. Unlike what they did with Beale
This. I said all along that Beale may have been the wrong appointment but he didnt stand a chance. A coach the fans back will inevitably grow in confidence. I hope some of the knuckle draggers have cottoned on.
Of course he did, just couldn’t manage to get a tune out of us and spoke ****e numerous times to the media. He didn’t help himself at all.
He didn’t stand a chance with some fans. Most said what you say here before he’d even stood in front of the media. He was the wrong choice, with hindsight. But the abuse he got before starting was a joke
They were as embarrassing as the mags who made the richest club in the world video but we are stuck with them.
Agree with the sentiment here, but it's what happens on the pitch that counts and will always count. Beale was nobodys' fav, but,if he'd have got a tune from the players and, clearly that's what KS and KLD were expecting, the fan doubts would have disappeared overnight. It was a bad choice by the owners as it turned out, because the lack of performance on the pitch merely confirmed the scepticism.
While I didn't agree with sacking Mowbray, we had already started on a downward trajectory, both in terms of the quality of the football and in terms of results, before he left. There was no new manager bounce under Beale. However, you have to consider that at least part of any such phenonomen is a result of an injection of hope or positivity into the fanbase, lifting the players. The other thing to consider is that Beale was working with largely the same group of players as Mowbray. Common sense should indicate that while the group of players remains the same, there is only so much difference a manager can make. Nothing has changed drastically under Dodds. Things haven't got much better but neither have we fallen off a cliff. A negative response to a managerial appointment is going to put pressure on the new man straight away. Whether that happens in the stadium or online is immaterial. It will still get back to the person in question. Sadly, the attitude of 'its online so its not the real world' is no longer accurate. We have to hope that the next head coach is more a more popular choice, otherwise the same thing will play out again.
I think what I was trying to point out is that, whilst we may get an appointment which our fanbase at large isn't happy with, it comes down to results on the pitch, which would in turn lift the players. No-one was happy with Beale, and rightly so as performances weren't any better. However,if they had been, the collective unhappiness would have dissipated. I suppose the best recent example of that is Mowbray himself.
Good post, highlighting the problem of popularity within a clubs fanbase. I don't like Still. If he gets the gig he will have my full support... however, there will be a few who compare him to Mowbray/Maresca/Martin, even Cooper, and start the negative grumblings ..
