That is a good fact. I had to check as I thought we were the same but in 2017 we played them our second game.
If we beat Blackburn at the weekend we'll set a new record for the most games won in the second tier in a season ... apparently goes back to Spurs in the 1919-20 season @Lovearsenalcock

The counter party has ultimate decision making power, as you've just stated. Even if other contributions were invalid (which they are not and never have been) if the counter party decides to use one of them, then they are ultimately the one choosing it.
