Remember, Russ was at one point on the verge of the sack from Swansea, then they went on an unbeaten run of 10 games or so. This isn't new.
He's done an extraordinary job there, and remember that there was always a suspicion he was the brains behind our good periods during Ralph Mk. 1.
I would suggest that Wilcox was a massive influence over this style. He came from Man City. He tried to bring Maresca with him, and when that didn't happen we went for Martin instead. And it's not like we were recruiting managers with this style prior to Wilcox. Martin admitted when Wilcox left that it impacts him more than anyone else, because he was Wilcox's man. Alongside recruiting Martin to play this style of football, I would suggest that Wilcox's other major decision was to make Charles our marquee signing. Depending what you read/believe, Charles' transfer was potentially the second biggest in the league this season (behind what Leeds paid for Piroe). Regardless of how each of us might feel about Charles, that's appalling. Everyone knows that Championship finances are a world away from PL finances. So if any Championship club decides to spend big money, in Championship-terms, on a player, that player should have a huge impact for you. Yet, rightly or wrongly, Martin had barely played him. Hence that money could have been spent so much better. I didn't shed a tear when Wilcox left recently. (When we first recruited him, I wasn't exactly pleased.)
Absolutely spot on. SR got us relegated. Now they’ve wasted our one season with parachute payments and PL quality players by appointing ****ing no marks with awful managerial records. Why didn’t they appoint someone with a record of championship promotion? Absolute muppets.
I think it was all Gao’s fault. Failing to get automatic promotion was an inevitable consequence of the lack of investment during his tenure.
If it stays like this then means Leeds guaranteed to have something to play for on final day. Should be fun
Leicester City supporter here; Specially after the 5-0 beating at our ground & today's loss to a poor Stoke team I feel you are where we were 3 weeks ago ...with a manager who plays 1 way & will not change !. But our players, lead by Vardy ha!, held a player's only meeting 3 weeks back. The result was Maresca had to accept a plan B etc from players, and it's saved our season, & you ? Reply 1
Neither side will love that result, and neither will hate it. Sky will be happy - it (just) means they have a reason to justify showing Leeds on TV again.
Exactly. Strictly speaking, the only time you need to be in possession is during the act of scoring the goals!
The EFL have discretion over whether to use VAR in the play-off SFs. They've previously indicated that they would only consider it where all four sides already have the VAR technology installed - which essentially means if all four teams have played in the PL since 2019-20. Leeds, Saints, Norwich and WBA have all played in the PL since 2019-20. (Hull and Ipswich haven't.)
