Completely agree with this. Yes his stats may say he's been worse than Ba or Aouchiche or maybe even Mundle but the reality of the situation is he's a massive upgrade on the 3 mentioned above. Aouchiche I'm still on the fence about as think he has something and could come good but the other 2 will never make good championship level footballers in my opinion.
I am sick of watching this turgid ****, Dodds thinks we did ok????? FFS man, is he from a different planet?
Roberts pre assists are for the opposition more than us. I’ve always thought of him as a player who you can stick on his right and let him run himself out of play or wait for him to check inside and you have it. Him playing for us has reinforced that view.
How many minutes has mundle played yet you think he'll never be good championship level, he came with rave reviews from junior levels, and I'm sure he wasn't expected to be a first team starter. He became available in a position we didn't really need however his potential was very highly regarded so we invested in him to develop. If these kids were performing to the standard of Roberts how bad would the reaction of the fans be. Roberts was quality last season when he was along side Diallo, this season he's been very poor. If he'd been on loan this season with the option to buy I don't think many fans would be screaming for his permanent signature
Exactly, how many of his incomplete dribbles have us on the back foot. We will be in an attacking position, pushing players forward when he loses procession and we get hit on the counter
No way he really said that did he? I can’t listen to the post match interviews anymore as they wind me up…
He alluded to it, we should have been 2 -0 up at half time and our possession was good in spells, we were ****ing awful
That's fine investing in Mundle if we have a huge budget but we don't. We can't keep buying potential in rhe hope they develop, there had to be a balance between potential and the here and now
Couldn't agree more, I've stated a few times that's one of the things they got wrong this season, we have to keep investing for the future however we should have had at least 3 experienced players in. I'm actually quite impressed with the players we brought in the last 2 windows, but I don't think any of them were what we needed at the time for the first team
So from what i've read Roberts needs Amad, a top striker, a top winger on the other side, an overlapping fullback who can also do his defensive work, a coach who values flair players and to be 100% fit at all time just to produce anything at all? Maybe he's just not that good?
One of the most skillfull players I have ever seen, but he never knows when to release the ball, someone said on a podcast he will dribble up his arse
There's a reason he's been so nomadic through his career. Last season was the perfect storm for him, but this season we are seeing the normal Patrick Roberts I think.
That's the whole problem, your judging them on the impact they are having on the team right now, IMHO that's not why they were brought in, the mistake was made by not bringing the experience in as well. The new signings are being judged on 10-15 minutes here and there. So yes I am impressed with the quality of POTENTIAL that has been brought in. If you want to right them before they've even settled in that's up to you
Thats how he's become a professional footballer because his skill is unbelievable. Unfortunately he doesnt assist, doesnt put a cross in or score goals which is the reason why hes spent 3 quarters of his career going from club to club on loan
Great away day with Sunderland. Wonderful being amongst so many Sunderland supporters before, during and after the game. Meeting friends, some new and some from decades ago was good enough but the support in the ground was special. I had a lovely little lad, about 6 years old, at the side of me who sang every Charlie Hurley chant. It took me back to when I was given a Charlie Hurley rosette by my Uncle Mervyn, around the same age, who said 'from now on you're a Sunderland supporter'. In the Consett area they tried to grab you for the red&white side early on
