1. Because if its not clear and obvious there is no review by the ref as they do not go to the marginals so I think its possible (??) two near identical handball penalties can be looked at by VAR and different results could crop up if one was given by the ref and the other wasn't??? 2. There isnt.
I give up RP.. there is no more that I can add.. it’s pretty clear in my mind just might not be in other peoples..
10/10. According to the ref in my house, the VAR system prioritises the refs on field decisions. That priority can create inconsistency between identical decisions. VAR cannot rule out a refs decision. Yes, from the protocol, "The referee is the only person who can make the final decision; the VAR has the same status as the other match officials and can only assist the referee." This is not what you were formally stating. You did not answer question one.
The protocol highlights clear and obvious error, not as you have posted mere error, why does the protocol make that distinction? It's just a protocol (a guideline as such)....allows the ref to make a final decision. Var is used as another pair(s) of eyes that can alert the ref whom might not have seen from either the angle he's at or of some obstruction. Either way it was seen by all parties and the decision was not changed from the referee's first decision made....In his eyes a clear cut handball & penalty.. even though the expert in you says it wasn't.....
We were awarded what some regard as a dubious penalty, which we scored from. In my mind, end of! I'm sure this has happened to every team since the rules of football came into being; the introduction of VAR has only, in my mind, muddied the waters, but, again, every team operating under it's auspices seems happy to gripe about the system at some time. I know we all have different opinions, but I'm amazed that this thread is still trundling on. It seems to have a bit of an "LJ" feel about it!!
Can we resurrect it please? I think it was a penalty. The ball hit his hand. If his hand hadn’t deflected it, a city player would (might) have nodded it in, so Huddersfield clearly benefited from the handball, ball to hand (or whatever you want to call it). The fact that we were still playing the game at 100 minutes was also down to their ****housery - not a reason to give the penalty of course, but certainly a reason not to feel sorry for them.
Is the word benefit in law 12? If the ball hits a hand, if the ball hits an arm/hand in a natural position is this a penalty?
Bristol City's good fortune continues as Tommy Conway penalty call is ruled incorrect "The attacker has deceived the referee and the correct decision would be to caution the Bristol City No15 for simulation" https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-tommy-conway-penalty-9256763 We benefited from Tommy's dive against Rotherham, some you win, some you lose...
We get no penalties from many, many matches so people complain. Now we get a couple of dubious ones in a short space of time and people complain. Do we as a group of supporters simply like to complain? Asking for a friend of course!!
