You have to earn a chance, and he clearly isn't (and hasn't) done enough to warrant it. He had a good run in the side in October time, if I recall, and did **** all. He's not wanted to be here this season and it's showed. Complete and utter waste of a squad place, would have much rather given the chances to Dibling.
Try getting a ticket! Update!! Now have one! I just feel I need to support the team, despite my rage along with others on here in the last couple of days. Some might laugh but so be it. I just hope we give a really good account of ourselves over the next few matches including the playoffs. If we lose, then it’s for others to decide where we go from there.
Nah I don't think he is a patch on how bad Carrillo was! Sulemana joined a sinking ship last season and then we appointed a manager that plays a style that doesn't suit him at all. He has still been disappointing for sure, but I expect he will leave Saints and go on to do fairly well in the right set up.
Sulemana may have all the physical tools to succeed but there's no end product. He did well in the Danish league but apart from that there's nothing to suggest he'd work as a main striker. Anyway, scoring goals hasn't really been our problem this season. It's our defensive record that's cost us.
Absolute waffle He’s been given loads of game time and done absolutely **** all. He’s a headless chicken. I agree that the style doesn’t suit him though. If we told him to run at people and get to the byline to whip it in he may have had more luck. His dribbling is world class. But his passing, shooting, crossing and decision making are league 2 at best. Plus his lack of defensive positional awareness is even worse than that
He has more talent in one leg than the rest of our wingers combined. If someone as **** as Fraser can be effective then Sulemana definitely could have been. Whether he doesn’t want to or it’s coaching who knows
I think that's your issue TBH. I've not seen a lack of effort from him. I get frustrated when he checks back and passes backwards instead of taking his man on but I firmly believe that's because he's been badly mismanaged by Martin.
I'm holding fire on whether we should look in a different direction next season. Firstly, the season could still be a successful one and there is no way that Russell will be replaced if we win the play-offs. I think that if we lose at Wembley the owners will probably still not take action but if the season fizzles out with a disappointing performance in the semi-finals then he might be in trouble which would probably be fair enough. There have been many positives this season and people comparing him with Nathan Jones really need to give their heads a shake IMO. He has the highest win ratio of any Saints manager since the 19th century! (55%) and oversaw the longest unbeaten run in over a century too. It's not been perfect, particularly defensively with far too many goals conceded which has ultimately cost us automatic promotion (maybe look at our defensive coach too) but when it works the way he sets up the team performs very well and I've been entertained with some great attacking and attractive football and getting on for 100 goals in all competitions. Of course the Leicester result will have caused alarm to many fans but I think that he picked near enough the right team but we weren't fully invested in the match and Leicester had the greater motivation and if you are 10% off it then you can get results like that so the Stoke game is important to see a positive reaction as we need some kind of form going into the play-offs. The bottom line is that if we go up then he will be the hero again, fine margins.
Yeah I’m leaning towards that as well. Fosse came on here saying Fatawu was incredibly raw and has improved game by game. He’s played in 38 games for Leicester this season, 50% more than Sulemana has played in. Can’t be bothered to look at how many of that was starts v subs (and 10 min cameos Sulemana gets pretty often) but he has played a lot more I would wager. Os even said Fatawu is what Sulemana should be, Fosse said he was frustrating at the start of the season and has just got better with game time. Our two most promising players in my mind are Alcaraz and Sulemana. Neither have played a big role and one has been loaned out. The similarity between them is they both take big risks when in possession and attacking. I believe that Martin wasn’t a fan of that amount of risk and that’s why they didn’t play and when Sulemana does he barely takes people on and looks to retain possession
Minutes played in the Championship this season: Mavididi - 3,504 Summerville - 3,359 Fatawu - 2,697 Sulemana - 918 Adam Armstrong - 3,645 Fraser - 1,508 Edozie - 1,300 Brooks - 836
To be fair, he was out for 11 matches from Dec to early March. He had a fair amount of time on the pitch from Mid Sept to end of Nov
Sure. And David Brooks wasn't even our player until 30 January, and he could overtake Sulemana's seasonal gametime vs Stoke.
Brooks has 2 goals and 5 assists, Sulemana has 3 assists. Looks like he missed the first 5 games of the season too, that's nearly half the season not available.
