1) Barnard up front, Guly out wide 2) De Ridder out wide 3) Schneiderlin in a diamond 4) Lee Holmes which option would you go for? i personally think Adkins will go for Schneiderlin, with Barnard coming back to fitness and he doesnt seem to like starting de ridder so i think he will go diamond however i want de ridder to start, holmes as the impact sub
100% option one. De Ridder has yet to prove to me that he has the defensive game to start in midfield - something which may well have contributed to Adkins picking Morgan over him to replace Chaplow (after all, Morgan is hardly a natural right midfielder, and it certainly sounded like we subsequently badly lacked width)
are you joking how is de ridder supposed to show you his defensive side when he has either come on when we are losing or come on when we are dicking someone. he has strength and pace which can both be used in attack and defence
Option one for me....with De Ridder to come on as the impact sub, why change a winning formula?...I do think that we should start with Morgan and Cork in CM for this one as he offers more penetrative passing than Deano.
Adkins has mentioned more than once about De Ridder's defensive game not being quite where it should be yet, and while yes little cameo's are hardly enough evidence to judge someone's defensive skills, that's all I've got to go on. Totally agree that he has the qualities, but he also needs the brain. Just because you're fast and strong does not neccessarily mean you've got a good defensive game, just look back at Antonio. On the other hand, I already know that Guly has an excellent defensive game.
exactly de ridder get back and tries to get the ball half to time guly walks back and gets caught off side
i think de ridder does need to work on defensive duties definetely, but hes still adapting so give him time
Just today I would have put De Rid on when Chappers was crocked, and Barney on for Guly, then use Spider later for one of the other midfielders, but that is easy to say when you are looking on and NA saw it different, he did however say in his post match comments that we tended to go sideways and backwards too often and would be watching the video to work out what went wrong, he needs to find out what Burnley did to turn around a 2 0 deficit against Hull.
De Ridder has potential to be very useful when he does some adapting. He's quick, has a decent cross on him and can offer real width when needed. I guess it depends on who we are playing and how they set up.
I agree (and I am not joking either), he needs not only the brain but the all important Championship experience. Guly on the other hand, is superb defensively and amazingly hard working for a flair player. Meanwhile, I wonder if Nigel will throw Barnard in so quickly on Tuesday, Morgan might be my tip to start.
