KLP wasn't ready. But he's now made for life. If Philogene gets an offer. anything ike KLPs he'd be mad not to go (unfortunately)

These are the same reasons I think we have a semi-decent chance with signing Delap. You could argue the same with Morton also. They've both only just done two full seasons in senior football, mostly in the Championship, with some cup games.

This notion that players are made for life with a single PL contract is really over the top.

At the very least it will set them up for life, if done properly they would be made for life....

If you can't set yourself up for life of a prem contract then there's something wrong. A 10k a week contract for 3yrs is approx 1.5m before any bonus or signing on fee, commercial deals or endorsements etc ( yes all don't get it ). That's more then enough to build yourself a property portfolio, invest in stock&shares etc.... and 10k a week for 3yrs is extremely low for a prem deal. The average is approx £3m a year.

The only reason you wouldn't be set up for life, is it the individual pisses it up the wall so to speak

Must be why all these ex PL players take jobs in the media. Do it for free for the love of the game.

Seriously though, after tax and all the hangers on and the excess they get used to, a lot of players retire and have very little set aside.

That's through their own personal choices though, not because a prem contract isn't enough to set then up for life....a big difference

PL wages are far higher than when many of these ex PL media ex players were playing!
And some maybe do it because they love the game and enjoy doing it.

Because it is. Very few players are set for life when they retire and far more end up bankrupt. Someone like klp being set for life off a single contract is hyperbole. Even if he isn't a loose cannon a lot of that money will be gone by the end of the contract.

Klp's contract will earn him approx £10/11m over the 6yrs. before any bonuses etc are taken into account ( obviously could be more or less but won't be far off ) and if he can't set himself up for life on that even after tax etc then **** me he's ( or anyone who earns that ) an idiot. How on earth you think anyone being paid that amount of money on a single contract isn't set for life is quite staggering even for you.... And saying they should be isn't hyperbole it's just common sense.

I didn't say that saying they should be is hyperbole, I agreed with you. <doh> Why you're insisting on misreading what I said to turn this into yet another argument is beyond me.

All I said was that a single PL contract isn't the guaranteed set for life that people make it out to be. Keiren Maguire talks regularly and at length about the financial education courses he runs for PL footballers because of the amount that fall out of the game mismanaging their money and ending up with nothing. I think I'll take my cues from him. Players SHOULD be set for life on that amount of money. Players are mismanaged, miseducated, taken advantage of, or just think the gravy train will keep on running forever and get a rude shock when it stops.

My last post on the topic.
