It will likely be West Brom in the semi who we did the double over, then once you're in the final anything can happen. Getting someone who doesnt know any of the players now would be one of the worst decision ever made in footballing history. No exaggeration. I agree he should probably go at the end of the season, but it would be ridiculous to make a change ahead of the play offs.
By all means use tonight as a reason to consider Martin's future beyond the end of the season. But not for the next four (or five) remaining games.
Have to stick with Martin. But the reaction to this result is massive. I will get behind the team and manager in the play off’s and hope this performance is not repeated.
I wanted Liam Rosenior in the summer if we were going down that route. Only seen his Hull team a couple of times this season but he seems to have them playing well
Yeah it would be mental to change now, but it really wouldn’t surprise me if we lost in the semis. Seems to me like they were all sniffing each others farts and thinking they were awesome and the stuffing has been completely knocked out of them now we won’t get top 2
Good shout. Seems like a possession-based manager, but not to the extent of being possession-is-absolutely-everything.
yeah seems like a less mental version of Martin. Add in that our squad next year will probably be similar quality wise to Hulls and I think he could be a good fit
61 goals conceded and counting… That’s now nine games this season with 3+ conceded. Pretty impossible to defend that (fittingly!)
It’s unbelievable really. Only saints could achieve 84pts, be 4th place in the league and still be absolutely ****. Mental club
I am reviewing my previous 'can't be sacked as long as we make the play-offs' to play like today in the semi-finals and bye bye. Of course get us promoted and he's a hero. Fickle int it.
Got to go. Imagine how ****ing awful it'll be next season with more of the same but with even worse players. Wouldn't get rid of him before the play offs because I don't think it'd make a difference though Within 2 years Sports Republic have turned us from PL Southampton into championship Swansea. That's some ****ing effort
I guess we just have to hope it’s like an Arteta at arsenal situation where this style is amazing and he just needs more time to implement it…
He sets up the same every single game. I mean, there's something to admire in the idea that "we won't worry about the opposition, let them worry about us", but that doesn't really wash when you're not a whole load better than everyone else. We play like we haven't prepared for the people we're playing against, and their particular strengths and weaknesses. It's why we've never seen a double-pivot with Downes and Charles (which is actually the most obvious set up for this squad to use, especially against stronger opposition). It's always same style, mad narrow full backs, intolerable risk, bad goalkeeper. That's not a route to success.
Look at the goals for and against in the league. We have been scoring at the same level as the other top 4 but... conceded 61 compared to Leeds - 37 and Leicester - 39. It doesn't take a statistics analyst genius to work out what the problem has been this season.
A lot of posters seem to be saying the same things I’m feeling: - He’s too stubborn, like Jones was, and stubbornness is a bad trait for a manager - If he can’t get us promoted with this squad, we’ll be a lot worse next season when we have to replace 50% of our team - The players have no bottle in big games and I have no confidence we’d win a playoff final
I guess another consideration is, if we don’t go up and we lose half our starting lineup and have a big rebuild in the summer, do we need to stick with the manager for a bit of stability, or does that make it easier to change manager because of all the other change going on?
No. If we don’t go up he has failed to meet his primary objective and can’t stay. The fact that he can’t organise a defence that includes KWP, THB and bednarek is insane.
****ing about with the back four didn't help. Not sure the games where 'we needed Jack' was actually true. Nothing against Jack. If we got promoted I'd be concerned. Not sure we will now, as the wheels seem to be coming off.
