I think the key thing here is giving the manager, the DoF, and the board time. Anything good and long-lasting takes time to put together. The club has been too trigger-happy but elements of the fanbase are incapable of showing patience.

I think you're right. I think the club do have someone lined up and I think it will be someone to satisfy the quick to complain element. The club will know they need to give the new man time and so the appointment will be designed, as far as possible, to limit that kind of disruption.

As for signing better players, if you want to win things you have to have the best players you can get hold of. That's standard, no matter what kind of model you're operating to.

I was surprised they made the call. A 3 game run without a win but still top of the table. I have been paying a little bit of attention after he was seen with KLD before. I think he was doing a good job overall but that defeat to Sturm probably set some worried directors into a spin.

What is impressive is the very young squad he has there. On a par with ours, maybe even younger. It interesting to ponder if something else has been going on...

I am not sure he would be right for us, but I have certainly seen worse candidates mentioned. He has some decent experience, but for one reason or another doesnt seem to stay anywhere too long.

I think Poyet is fondly remembered because of three things:

    1- The great escape
    2- The cup run
3- Destroying the mags often (think he won 4 out of 4 against them?)

The 3-0 derby day win at SJP under Poyet was by far my favourite win against them. Everyone goes on about Di Canio’s win but everything that day just seemed to go in and it was a fairly even game. The Poyet one we absolutely obliterated them and could have won it 6-0.

Each to their own, but I like Poyet a lot compared to the majority of other managers we had in the premier league era.

Also Man Utd away in the league, absolutely bossed that game with slick, one touch passing. They couldn't get near us at times and that effort that Borini had which hit the bar would've been one of our best goals of all time. Something like 25 consecutive passes which lead up to the shot.

That was unbelievable <laugh> Would’ve been goal of the season, no doubt about it.

Man U away comes under the great escape - same run where we were the first team to beat Chelsea at Stamford bridge that season I think? But aye, was a fantastic performance at Old Trafford.

Never forgive Poyet for the Hull away team selection in the cup.

Would have deserved it, doubt it would have gotten it. They would give it to a one scored from distance by a fashionable team or player!

That win against the mags was comfortable for 90 minutes, dominated them from start to finish.

This was back when both clubs were evenly matched finances and team wise aswell, not like that recent 'derby'!

I remember Bruce did the same at Brighton before they were this Brighton.

Sure we started the match with 7 defenders and 3 midfielder or something stupid. Against a team in the division beneath us.

Edit: just looked it up. 4 defenders and 6 midfielders.

Yep, any ‘derby’ against them now is just so uneven due to the finances etc.

Shame really, because it was always interesting going into them on an even footing.

The cup game this season was the least nervous I have been for a derby.

Remember getting to Hull and it was glorious, loads of beers, class banter then into the stadium and seen the team. I knew instantly it was a Wembley trip we wouldn't be going to.

I’m exactly the same. Cracking trip down, big allocation. Team news out and genuine disbelief in the concourse. Stuffed on the pitch and then find out Hull draw League One Sheffield United in the semi-final. Unforgivable.

When the football was good under Poyet it was better than anything we've seen at that level. When it was bad though it was really bad. Plenty of fond memories from his time here without a doubt.
