related to this sort of thing. On FF earlier they were lamenting that all but 1 English clubs crashed out of Europe this week, claiming the English league was more draining and that foreign teams have more opportunities to rest players etc etc. Then about 5mins later they were slamming the FA for getting rid of replays claiming it was only for the Prem teams, specifically 6 or 7 who were playing in Europe. Can't have it both ways, can't have an already bloated schedule (and more Uefa that want) and the expect teams not to get jaded and see quality drop off. Only way English European teams will be able to cope from next season is by playing academy teams in the cups or just sacking them off, at which point they'll get accused of disrespect to the competitions.
Do the other European leagues cup competitions include replays? The biggest difference appears to be that we have 2 cup competitions in comparison to other leagues one
At a glance Germany- no Spain- no (2 leg SF) France- no (also scrapped their league cup 4 yrs ago) Italy- no (2 leg SF
What we need to do is to restructure the leagues, unfortunately the money grabbing pondlife that run the Premier League etc will never allow it.
Playing Chelsea?... But that's like being a professional formula one driver complaining about having to race a guy on a tricycle around Monaco.
Germany have less league games. Only 18 team league. also I believe we’re the only nation that has 2 domestic cup competitions which is the big difference and why despite having same league games, countries like Spain can have a proper winter break.
That’s why I believe we should have 5 leagues, 4 leagues of 18 teams starting at the top with the Premier league and a 5th of 20.
yeah but that'll ya do. ask turkeys to vote for Christmas? until there's 14 mega rich clubs looking down on 6 minnows there's just no way the turkeys will vote for a 2 team reduction in the prem. the simple solution to the league cup is strip its European place via fa and uefa insisting (bribe them) and then the league cup instantly dies. some people just want to enjoy their domestic football and don't actually care cos their clubs don't ever get in Europe.
It's a top-club mentality to consider ditching the League Cup. The majority of domestic teams haven't a sniff of Europe so who can deny them another competition to liven up their season? If it really has to change then just remove all teams engaged in Europe from that season's LC. Is it really that hard?
take the uefa conference spot off that comp and ban oil clubs amd they can have their cup like the johnstons paint trophy. I'd agree with the sentiment that clubs in europa can do one.
Depends on how you class non-top Swansea 2013, Prem team Birmingham 2011, Relegated from PL Don't think any non-top tier team has ever won the LC
it's used as a ego trip by oil clubs all thst the efl cares about is getting the match day income from semis and final. they literly couldn't care less after that. Swansea won it in 2023 and the uefa authorities went mad cos they didn't want them in Europe. Birmingham bafore that when wenger ****ed it in the final. I'm all for throwing Europe qualified clubs out of it but the efl would panic over their slush fund
Non big 6 generally. Argument is always that top clubs don’t take LC seriously anyway yet they win it pretty much every year over the past decade or more so not really an argument that it’s there for the other teams to win a trophy. If anything most prem teams play the reserves until QF stage as not fussed by it
